Simple web-calendar that can be embedded in a webpage

My friend is looking for alternative to Google Calendar. He used Zoho but it brings up 'Security Certification warnings'.
All he needs is a simple calendar that will
1) list upcoming events in the main sidebar on an html page.
2) Show the traditional 'month grid' on the specific calendar html page
3) doesn't need to be multiuser, ie its fine that he enters all the events himself
4) the option of having 'going events' would be a bonus
All ideas appreciated. . .
