Truly Bare Bones Puppy-5.4 Precise / Slacko?

#1 Post by sunburnt »

I and others have talked about a really stripped Puppy.
Most want an empty shell to build a normal Puppy release upon.

I want to make a new type of modified Puppy based on no-install apps.
This would overcome some of the classic problems with Linux and Puppy.

I`ve never used the Puppy builder, but for some folks this would be a snap.

No apps. hardly at all, basic utilities only. Apps. should be replaceable.
Rox, rxvt, Geany, firewall, etc. And all of Puppy`s setup utilities.

Hopefully Puppy-5.4.x Precise has fixed the problems with the base O.S.
App. problems don`t really matter as there won`t be any in the build.

OK, I've been thinking about this, and I know you know this, because I've seen you around and you make knowledgeable posts, but to clarify things a bit for those who might not speak English as a first language....

By "Shell,' do you mean no graphical environment, or just JWM or Openbox?

By no trouble with apps, do you mean that in developing a barebones puplet means I don't have to mess with that?? Obviously, and here I am clarifying mainly for others, in installing an app, one might encounter problems, and one just might have to solve those problems himself.

Please forgive me if I am restating the obvious, but as a forum moderator elsewhere for many years, I am always conscious of the fact that people do not always understand English in the same way. I'm told that even in England, a small country, people from different regions do not always express themselves in mutually intelligible ways. "

Anyway...there you have it.

:D All's well that ends well, that's what I say.

So, as for my questions above, nevermind!

On a more serious note, thanks, jrb, this should be really useful for something I'm working on. And thank you, sunburnt, for asking about this.
