seamonkey gone south, ideas, disk checkers

#1 Post by darkcity »

Hi

Seamonkey stop working on a Slacko 5.3.1 frugal install. It is stuck in report-crash--restart loop.

Seamonkey installed via seamonkey 2.12 sfs

Suspect harddrive corruption problem, as some files in the mozilla cache returned in/out error. The .mozilla/seamonkey directory was syslinked to /mnt/home/temp/seamonkey

I uninstalled and reinstalled with fresh .mozilla/seamonkey but the problem persists.

Installed firefox - working fine.

The questions then are-

1) any ideas to help diagnose seamonkey problem

2) any good linux/bootcd disk scanner to check harddrive

Any ideas appreciated :shock:

Hey Darkcity

I don't know if this one is present in every Puppy (nor if it's "good" enough):
http://linux.die.net/man/8/badblocks

And what about fsck - it didn't help?

Greetings!

Try to launch seamonkey by a script of the following type:

#!/bin/sh
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path-to-parent-dir-of-seamonkey/seamonkey:/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/X11R7/lib

exec /path-to-parent-dir-of-seamonkey/seamonkey/seamonkey "$@"

Boot off your Live CD using "puppy pfix=ram".

Mount the partition containing your save file.

Run: e2fsck -p slackosave.xsf

new mozilla software and corruption savefiles-X failure

#5 Post by watchdog »

Odd things! I tried to install seamonkey 2.15 in wary 5.3. I have had a X failure and corruption of the encrypted savefile. The same X failure I had in precise before installing the mavrothal jwm-590-i486.pet package:

So I have compiled the same jwm-590 in wary and I'm testing it with seamonkey 2.15. It seems to work now.

Seamonkey_install

Hi fellow Kauler disciple. I installed SM 2.15.1 by unzip- untaring the downloaded SM file in the Puppy 2.5.2 /usr/lib dir and it works fine. It could be a memory problem. I had all sorts of weird crashes until I eliminated a bad memory address. Run memtest and make sure the hardware is perfect. :)
