How to change default file extension in Abiword?

Hello,

Does anyone know how to permanently change the default file extension in Abiword 2.8.6?

I've found many references on the web to do this and I have attempted to follow the examples.
See screenshot below.
I know that a personal template can be created.
However, what I am looking for is a permanent change to the program's file extension default of .abw, .zabw, abw.gz.
I would like the program always to open to a .pdf extension as the default (I'm willing to accept .rtf if .pdf won't work for some reason).

Does anyone see what I've missed in attempting to do this?

Thank you in advance of your reply.

Report Back on Abiword Default File .pet

Offered by esmourguit at this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84128

Test done on:
Lucid Puppy 528.005 frugal install on HDD
Running on:
Dell Inspiron 600m laptop
Intel Pentium M 1.60GHz
1294MB RAM

Script changed Abiword's native default from .abw, .zabw, abw.gz to OpenDocument (.odt).
None of the other .pet extensions would activate.
Abiword now shows OpenDocument (.odt) as it's default.
OpenDocument (.odt) doesn't change back to native default (.abw, .zabw, abw.gz) with *rebooting* or *uninstalling* and *rebooting*.

Testing each file extension offered (.abw, .odt, .rtf, .doc .docx) I found this:

I applied Abiword Default File .pet prior to opening Abiword - .odt persisted.

I applied Abiword Default File .pet after opening Abiword and before beginning a document - .odt persisted.

I applied Abiword Default File .pet after creating a document but before *saving as*. - .odt persisted.

*Rebooting* still left .odt as the default extension in each case.

I intend to enter a reference to this post at esmourguit's thread.

Hope this is helpful.

Note: I work primarily with the GUI interface.
If there is a terminal entry that may help debug, please post it and I will enter and give results.

Sky Aisling,

A couple of things:

1. Try changing this:

Code: Select all

DefaultSaveFormat=" .pdf"
to this:

Code: Select all

DefaultSaveFormat=".pdf"
(Remove the space before .pdf.)

2. I notice that you edited a language-specific profile. I don't know when or if those profiles are used by the Linux flavor of abiword. If you know that system.profile-en works for you, then that's fine, but I needed to use the non-language-specific system.profile file.

Bonjour à toutes et tous,

Thank you for testing that script. I removed the .abw and .docx format, cause they created problems.

Cordialement

EDIT: NPierce - Please disregard this post. I think I see my mistake.
I'm working on it now.

Thank you.
esmourguit wrote the script. I didn't write the .pet or change any script in the pet.
