Trying to install FirefoxESR 24.8.1

#1 Post by mgolden »

I installed Puppy Linux 5.7 on an old Gateway laptop about two months ago.

Shortly thereafter I managed to upgrade the supplied FirefoxESR 17.0.11 to FirefoxESR 24.7.0

Heck if I can remember how I did it.

Now I'm in the process of installing Puppy Linux 5.7 on a Dell Desktop computer and I'd like to upgrade the FirefoxESR 17.0.11 to FirefoxESR 24.8.1

I downloaded the firefox-24.8.1esr.tar.bz2 file from Mozilla and extracted it to ~/my-documents/firefoxESR_24.8.1

The program appears to run OK from this folder but I'm wanting to properly install it so the Browser icons connect to the new version.

Any ideas?

Yeah! ESR's @ 31.1.1. Extract the new build to /usr/lib and fire *its* executable.

If she runs OK, delete the other FF folder and you're done.

Others prefer a more laborious method..

Happy to hear it! Pup's so modular I just can't get on board with those *other* methods.
