music files won't transfer between mp3 player and sd cards |
|
At the outset I would like to say that this is a second-hand issue, someone else's problem, and thus I don't know all the facts and circumstances. I'll try to describe the problem. There are music files on a mp3 player, presumably ripped from a music CD, which user would like to transfer to other media, namely, micro SD card. User has an adapter that allows a mini SD card to be plugged into a USB port. The mini SD card is 8GB SanDisk brand. The micro SD card with adapter is 8GB PNY. The SanDisk card refuses to accept the music files, giving an error suggesting the pathway is incorrect or the data is not there. As a workaround, I transferred the music files to the working computer's hard drive and tried to transfer that folder to the mounted SanDisk mini SD card, but received the same error message and refusal to transfer. Another key piece of evidence is that photos on the PNY micro SD card will transfer, according to user. Any clue what is going on here.
An extra question for me: Will a PNY brand micro-to-mini adapter work with a SanDisk micro SD card?

Both Windows XP and Wary 5.1.1 (live CD) refused to make the transfer. The SanDisk mini SD card is empty, and has never performed any task, because of this refusal to handle data. Perhaps it contains security software that SanDisk likes to put on storage media. There are photos on the PNY micro SD card, which user says can be moved around. I also tried to transfer music files to this PNY micro SD card (inserted in adapter), but got the same error and refusal.

GParted shows a 7.4 GB fat32 partition with 4.00 MB unallocated in gray. In the fat32 partition, there are 4.03 MB in use and 7.39 GB unused.

How big are the music files? Are any of the files you're attempting to transfer to the card over 4GB?

There are some 220 music files, most the size of 5-minute songs in .wav format. I am in possession of the 8MB SanDisk mini SD card, not the PNY micro SD card, not the mp3 player with 8MB storage.

Does this card or its adapter have the little lock switch turned on?

I did not know about a lock switch. That switch is/was in the unlocked position on both the SanDisk card and the micro-to-mini adapter.
