Hello

I'm trying to make sense of the video output options in Gnome MPlayer. I mean the the drop down list available under Edit > Preferences I have attached a screenshot of what I mean.

What should be the benefit of using one over another?
Which might be "best" with an ATi X1600 card?

I am using the MPlayer that comes with Lupu 528 BTW

In developing Lupu 528 the best options seemed to be X11 or XV.
Very dependent on graphics hardware and graphics driver being used.
A good Google search will give you info about each option.

Multimedia playback. The default media player, Gnome-mplayer, is backed up by the larger and more elaborate Smplayer which is in Puppy Package Manager (PPM)--you should try Smplayer if you have any problems. Lucid Puppy also has the well-regarded VLC media player in the PPM which some people prefer. Click the 'Install' icon on the desktop and then the bottom entry for Puppy Package Manager. To play DVD's, XineDVD and Ogle are in the Puppy Package Manager.

I realize that I posted rather quickly without thinking what I was tying to ask.

I was wandering if there was an "order of preference" to try the options in so as to settle on the highest that works with my hardware or if different options might work better with different source material?

Do you know of a good reference site that explains this for a non-developer?

Hi, I downloaded the MacPup Version 5.29 and was trying to get
it to work on a encrypted DVD CDROM which now is required by
our Government as a standard. You want to be careful which
selection you try on the 'Player Configuration Menu." I didn't
think that the player was working and selected the wrong one
and that guaranteed that the player wouldn't function. Better
off leaving the settings alone if you don't know what they do!

The only reason that my player wasn't functioning was first,
I didn't select a listing on the CD. I couldn't figure out
why there was no video but sound on the DVD was working?
Well, I messed with the setting then I had no sound and it
caused problems with the program until it locked up.

Well, the solution for this was to bailout, REBOOT. I was
FEARLESS this time because the only OS on the drive was
the old Win98 OS. Not Windows '98 but just the DOS
startup boot files. You have one directory and two PUP files
to remove since they hold your program information and
pagefile. The beauty about the Pups is, if you screw one
up real bad just remove the the files and reboot off of
the disk for a fresh start. BE CAREFUL DOING THIS ON WINXP
WIN2K, WIN7, OR WIN8. You corrupt one of them and you could
have big problems and worse yet, if you have one of them in
a NTFS format.

I got the player running and it works great but my best is the
eXine player in Lucid Puppy. The Ogle Player in Wary isn't bad
either. I never did get the DVD player in Debian or Zenwalk
to work until I found out about the encryption. That has also
caused problems for MS Windows. I had one DVD that played
ok in WinXP and the others that didn't! I ended up buying a
player off the internet that works.

Just think, if you have a Pup you don't need to waste money
on such addons! Bill must be in cahoots with the venders,
internet and industry. The Gnome Player works good it just
takes a little time to get use to it.
P.S. Try the MacPup 5.29, it's flashy!

2016 Ogle works, your video is fluent, nice colors.. After the european and amrican futbol cups, Olympic games, many people still buy DVDs, either as gifts to offer, or for home family

If our Video lovers fail with newer media-players, They will use on of these two alternative vintage DVD players.
