#1 Post by hatewindows »

Hello Im not new to linux been using it for 7 years.. I boot puppy os from a usb flash drive on a PC that has Mint OS installed on the hard drive--I need to know where the settings are so i can save downloaded programs and settings to the flash drive without installing anything to my on board Hard drive..I just want all my setting changes and downloaded programs to stay on the flash drive--But need to know where and how to instruct puppy to do that! I remember when i first booted i saw something about that but i think i screwed that up LOL thanks so much for any help!! BTW PUPPY OS is very cool!! Have a great day!!!! :)

This depends on how you originally set up the flash drive. But it probably contains a file named "syslinux.cfg".

Open it in a text editor.

On the end of the "append" line, add "pmedia=usbflash".

More info on Puppy boot process (with links to even more info) at http://puppylinux.org/wikka/BootIndex

Specific Puppy boot parameters at http://puppylinux.org/wikka/BootParameters

Btw, is your current USB boot preserving your changes over reboots or not? If it is preserving state but not storing it on the USB then it is possible you have managed to store a savefile elsewhere.

You can also just rerun the Puppy Universal Installer from a fresh ISO CD boot and install to target USB Flash drive to get you back to a known good initial state.
