Precise Puppy 5.5 Release Candidate
5.4.90 (5.5alpha1)
5.4.90
Multimedia
pupRadio/pupTelly streaming media
When NASA is selected in pupTelly... the program 'bounces' back and forth between the pupTelly dialog-box and the video media... stays on NASA about 7-seconds... stays on pupTelly dialog box about 11-seconds, this continually repeats.
So far, all else is working just great! Installed several programs without a problem, they all work fine and so far have not had one occurrence of 'buffering' in any youtube or other videos!
One thing, I do believe some of the 'fonts' could be a wee-bit 'thicker', especially in browser-headings of Seamonkey... there they could also be a bit larger

Adjusting mplayer cache may help, or having really good bandwidth, they have moved to HD video.
It was fine a few days ago but I see an issue too, it may be the stream. If it doesn't come good by Friday, I'll delete NASA nad put in something else.
Gnome-mplayer plays it but jumps about every few seconds.

UDF support feedback
I noticed from BK's blog that he had implemented udf support for dvd's.
I had an already udf formatted dvd that I've used in the past on Windoze to do backups. I'm pleased to report that it mounted just fine on Precise 5.4.90 and I was able to delete files and copy files to it just like it is a hard disk - which is great.
I did notice however that neither Partview nor Pmount seemed to know that the dvd/filesystem was mounted....see screenie
plus, I wonder how you would go about formatting a dvd for udf access? Is this done via gparted? Does gparted support udf dvd fomatting or should some other program be used - Pburn?
All-in-all I'd say this is a great addition to the Puppy armoury....
Cheers

I transplanted the contents of etc/fonts from pemasu's dpup Exprimo into this build. At this image size you probably won't see a big difference, but on screen, it will not go unnoticed.
Haven't done yet much testing, so far runs smooth and cool on my eeepc.

installed openshot (ubuntu version) from the PPM and it fired up straight away, i'm glad the python.deb install scripts are now being run.
alsaequal is excellent and works well
the chat icon on the desktop is pointing to pidgin instead of xchat or mozchat. thanks for removing ayttm, it was a pain!!
it would be nice if glipper is set to autostart by linking it to /root/Startup, it's extremely useful and a lot of people probably don't know that it's there.

I've seen this in Precise (the alpha version too), both in JWM and Openbox: when I right-click a file from ROX and select either Copy, Rename, or Move (several times, the one I use more frequently is Copy), the screen turns black, showing only the taskbar, then if I try to use other programs the taskbar disappears and all is finally black. I restart X and keep doing things as usual, then after many times copying files from ROX right-click menu I get the black screen again.
