I would like to do some different tasks with various movie-data and I would be glad to get some tipps, which tool i can use:
    * Convert hd-mpeg to non-hd avi (my mediaplayer lacks the ability to play hd Sad )
    * Cut and convert transponder-strems from sat-reciver and from DVB-T-reciver to avi (for the mediaplayer)
    * Load old DV-Viedo-cassettes via FireWire and keep the MetaData of the takes (date, time) like windows-movie-maker

You might start with Avidemux..
There is a Puppy called Mediapup which has several tools. Very Happy
