Pidgin 2.11.0 - Builds for Puppy 4.3.1 (and later)
I'm currently trying to look into it (as I mentioned above, it hasn't been working for me, for a while).
Apparently, it may have something to do with a gnutls conflict... the only workaround I've seen so far, as mikeb has found, is to compile Pidgin using nss and NOT gnutls. The thing is, though, according to this email on the Pidgin devel list, not only do you have to recompile Pidgin, you also cannot have gnutls installed on your system (well, at least in the (lib)purple directories).
Since I can't guarantee everyone using these builds won't have gnutls installed or will uninstall it just for the sake of using Pidgin, I'm trying to see if there's another workaround.

hmm thats just saying make sure the gnutls plugin is not left around from a previous build.
I have libgnutls (for what its worth now) around but not the plugin and it works like that and I just used the config parameter to disable it so no workaround needed ...load sfs and run in my case.
Trickeist part is making sure the nss dev files are ok. I still had what I needed from bulding gnome-mplayer. Puppy includes mozilla/ff in the path which helps when running.

Well, datafilehost no longer has the original download (not that I expected them to still have it up, anyway), but I've re-uploaded it.

This is the 2.10.6 .pet only. I don't know if it'll only work with the older version of gnutls I used to compile against, though.

Pidgin 2.10.10 has been released, so head to the first post of this thread for my builds to test.
Notable among the changes is this:
(It seems to be working on my setup, although it initially threw an "invalid data received" error. I have yet to see if it'll also notify me of new email in my Yahoo inbox, like it used to do.)
Notable among the changes is this:
...so for those of us who were unable to connect to Yahoo IM accounts with versions of Pidgin built against gnutls, you might (finally) be able to connect again.

Fix login when using the GnuTLS library for TLS connections.

Yes now yahoo is working again.
I tried it on Tahrpup 6.0 non-Pae
I will try it on other puppies later
Great job Makoto.
By the way, I installed those 6 small pets that you advised first, i don't know if they were all necessary, but it worked

Pidgin 2.10.11 has been released. This is mostly a minor update; it fixes (for the moment) connecting to MSN accounts, as well as a few other things.
The new builds are available in the first post of this thread, for testing.

I have been using dropbox here and elsewhere for a year or two for direct file links and had no problems... recommendations can get more free space. For direct links you change the url to 1 at the end instead of 0.
No expiry and no problems with corruption unlike other hosts I tried.
You can also link a whole folder which can be convenient for repositories.
Just in response to your first post.

Hmm... I don't know. I've been wary of Dropbox for a while, although it's been long enough that I don't really remember why. I'll keep it in mind, though.

Yes I don't understand why some have a problem with it.... its passed my tolerance test and they are consistant which many are not. We got an account each to total about 15GB storage. I made a simple gui which means you can use it as a file host rather than syncing backups...and its free. I tried a few...4shared when members only and horrible interface, mediafire...terrible file corruptions issues....
Some get paranoid about privacy but I have some backups of things like images of bootable windows and never had a sniff of a problem. For FOSS who cares...

gnutls is a library providing SSL, TLS, etc. support, so it's necessary for the program to run (not just MSN support). I'm currently compiling Pidgin against gnutls 3.2.13, so I'm guessing you'll need to have at least gnutls 3 in some form on your system, or my Pidgin build won't run.
That said, on my system, MSN seems to be refusing to connect again for some reason (despite the fact they (temporarily) fixed it; it's a matter of Microsoft dropping the client version Pidgin was identifying itself as). Nobody else has reported it, though, so it may be just me.

Were they my builds? There was a time (around 2.10.9) where builds compiled against gnutls were unable to connect to Yahoo IM. Some started compiling it against Mozilla's NSS instead. The problem was fixed in version 2.10.10.
There's also an unintended side effect - 2.10.10 and earlier also inadvertently waste a lot of bandwidth continuing to try to connect to MSN. So, it's better to update to 2.10.11, if possible.
Pidgin's fix for the MSN connect problem is in version 2.10.11. The previous versions of Pidgin identify themselves as a version of MSN Messenger that Microsoft/Skype no longer allow to connect.MSN gave same error as in 2.10.9 refusing to connect.
