Wary and Racy 5.5-final is released, and there is a new Forum thread:

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=84748

That 'grubconfig' problem discussed above, has missed out. Yes, grubconfig has not changed for a long time.

Personally, I use grub4dos, which worked fine when I used it recently in Precise Puppy.

Anyway, if you guys can narrow-down what is wrong with grubconfig, that will be great.

racy 5.4.91

Went directly to desktop without a hitch..

Report Video 1.3 - Wed 27 Feb 2013 on Racy Puppy 5.4.91 - Linux 3.8.0 i686

Chip description:
9.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 SE] (rev 01) 0.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01)
oem: ATI RADEON 9200

X Server: Xorg Driver used: radeon
X.Org version: 1.11.0
dimensions: 800x600 pixels (211x158 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

, usb thumbdrive showed at plugin and mounted ok (pmount also fine in tabview after a refresh).

Audio CD showed as 2nd optical driveicon after media inserted, Pmusic 321 from rootmenu->..probing disc 'til one gets tired of waiting and watching how many loglines go up in xload.. quit pmusic and try .. pCD reads disc for awhile... get tired of that and see if retrovol is doing anything .. use alsamixer instead to check levels/mutes .. pCD reads disc again for awhile... try from the console.. give up on playing a CD and see if samples play.. eject the audio CD, re-X several times, get annoyed at pprocess (wish for htop) --forget this nonsense, reboot nosave!
___take2___
De-exec everything in ~/Startup. Pmusic ok at playing local samples, not so much at closing (seems to stay resident).
'deja-vu' BKblog - Pmusic 3.2.3 bug

Same 'can't quite get edge-to-edge' screen display with xorg editing for 1024x768 on my crt - a modeline almost corrects the offset. If I don't use a modeline, display is shifted offscreen left quite a bit

___disc-swap upgrade (modified racy5390 savedto racy5491 disc)___
background..
racy5390 has Pmusic 2.6.6, which seems a bit better behaved for my limited use of it (audacious just works for me). Plus my racy5390 is pretty much all set up as I like. So..

Some minor adjustments after the swap and it's all good, more-or-less.

Had a minor hiccup..
(see 'perils' for the full illustrated story)
..caused by symlinks pointing to each other, but fiddled a fix and things are back to par

3.8.0 kernel fine, as far as I can tell :) .. an exception would be sfs_load-1.9.6 (various issues with on-the-fly actions locking up the os on a liveCD multisession) .. these might be resolved with sfs_load-1.9.6-2, perhaps.

____________

soundcard - emu10k1 (aka Creative Audigy 2 ZS or SB0350)
boot/save method - liveCD multisession (cd-rw media), disc-swap upgrade from racy 5.3.90

firefox 18 thru 20 for Wary 5.5

#93 Post by mikeslr »

Hi All,
In case it hasn't been mentioned before:
Following up on the advice offered on this thread --thanks sickgut: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=66373 I downloaded and installed --just click, Wary will do the rest-- libc6_2.11.3-4_i386.deb. Probably from Ubuntu, but maybe from debian. Firefox 18 and 19 ran, and 19 updated to 20 without a problem.
Caution: Although I've run built-in applications I thought might have been effected by the alien .deb changing glib and did not experience any problems, I can't guaranty that this will work flawlessly under every configuration. Especially as I'm running firefox in a slightly odd manner.
Usually I run firefox from /mnt/home. But I'm planning to remaster Wary 5.5 and including such "external folder" in a remaster complicates things. So I downloaded the latest version of firefox from mozilla and unpacked it in /opt.

Back up your SaveFile.
Sorry, I wasn't following wary's evolution or I would have realized I wasn't posting to the last and this has been discussed by watchdog @ http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 340#689340. I didn't notice the locales problem.
