I admit: absolutely not! It is why I am trying to understand how it works to be able to preconfigure the next release of my iso (ToOpPy Precise 5.4.3)
Something new: when creating xcf file using the latest version of Gimp, I get thumbnails Very Happy
But I did so many things here and there that I don't know what was wrong or good, what solved this issue... It will be difficult to reproduce the procedure! And what about video thumbnails? It is still a deep "mystery"!

Cordialement.

Hello Argolance

In my experience this is quite normal behaviour.
Try this:
Open up (in GIMP obviously) a pre-existing .xcf file that is not showing a thumbnail image,
now do nothing more than simply save the file.
You should now have a thumbnail image showing in ROX.

The only problem is, it will only show until you reboot or restart the Xserver.

Anyway's mate, back to all this other nonsense. Laughing

Curiosity got the better of me,
so i fired up Puppy Precise 5.4.3 (using pfix=ram) and had a crack at this myself.

Apart from these two packages:

I also ended up installing this lot (approx 20MB Shocked ) via the PPM
before i got thumbnails of .xcf files showing in ROX.
Although there were still a few that did not show as thumbnails for some reason. Rolling Eyes

I am going to test this and try to make (if possible!) a global pet package for those who are interesting in: obviously, I cannot integrate 20 additional MB to my iso just to be able to have thumbnails. It is nevertheless very convenient when working on pictures...
EDIT: I presume VideoThumbnails should work properly too?
Thank you to both of you!

Cordialement.

Bonjour,
Catdude found the solution (only one 30K file is required) Cool.

Here is what you need to do:

Copy the file from the attached tarball to: /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders
so that you have this: /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-xcf.so
Now open a terminal and run this command:

Code:
gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders > /etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders

That's all that needs to be done.

Restart the Xserver, then go to a directory which contains some GIMP (.xcf) files.

You should now see thumbnails of the .xcf files

Thank you so much!

Cordialement.

Hi

I believe that the tarball Argolance has attached above
is the one i compiled for him in tooppy_1-0_precise-5.4.3.iso

If anyone wants to compile it for a different Puppy version
you can grab the sources here: http://gitorious.org/xcf-pixbuf-loader/mainline/archive-tarball/master

Note, that the command was specific to Precise also,
you may need to run a different command in another version of Puppy.
