Scooby, I'm also using the flsynclient from Carolina to configure touchpads in alphaOS 4.0 sucessfully. Adding a synclient -s line to /root/.start will load the settings created on a reboot or X restart.

So you dont have to hack in xorg.conf at all?

Some xorg.conf substitution/modification is still required to get the synaptics driver loaded and running. Two straight substitutions that have worked are the one I mentioned on the alphaOS board for the ALPS touchpads and the one from Carolina you used. Once the driver is running, synclient can be run in a terminal to change configuration, xorg.conf can be edited manually, or flsynclient can be installed and used to configure the touchpad from a GUI. If that is done, it creates a configuration file .flsynclient in /root which can be manually edited and loaded at boot using a line synclient -s in /root/.start. As I recall, flsynclient is around 200kb. Whether the convenience is worth the weight is a judgement call.

Changes in spkg_gui
- new column showing packages "Version"
- new button Home - it opens package home page inside firefox, so you can get better info before installing the program
New packages added to repo:
- libreoffice - it is divided to 3 packages (libreoffice-4.0.2-1.spkg, libo1_core-4.0.2-1.spkg, libo2_core-4.0.2-1.spkg ),
because I got error (502) when uploading single 130MB package.
If you want to save space inside savefile type:
makesfs libreoffice (wait and relax)
- two new games:
assault cube 50MB
http://assault.cubers.net/
trigger rally 30MB
http://sourceforge.net/projects/trigger-rally/

I didn't know VLC is also media conversion program, Arefacti maybe you could try to compile it:
install qt4 from alphaos repository then type spkg -a vlc, check options there and after that type spkg -ci vlc.
also don't forget to add "enable run as root" , my goal is make new tool - not compile 5000 packages all by myself that's impossible
Cheers

wireless drivers package in alphaos is from puppy precise, if Puppy precise works this should also work.. i suggest test a bit more and with lsmod compare loaded drivers

So with ffplay you could play wma, and I don't have ffplay binary at all
I see you added --enable-nonfree but with that we'd break some law I think

Thanks for the swift reply. I've been using Puppy since Puppy 4 and this card has workd with every version I've used. I run Lucid right now.
I'll give Precise a shot and come back with info. Thanks.

try this manual method:
converting .pet package with pet2tgz in lucid,
run this in alphaos
tar xvf pet-name.tar.gz -C /
but with this method, you cant do uninstall the pet.
I hope this helps.

Hi all, especially rcrsn51 and simargl,
Happy to report that printing works in alphaOS after installing rcrsn51's printing package and then using ppet to install printer drivers for my Canon MP640 all-in-one printer. Peasyscan also works over the network. For the records, I downloaded canon_mp640-3.20.pet and cups-bjnp-1.0.pet from:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 110#644110
Thanks guys.
My next wish is to see openshot in the alphaOS package manager
Cheers.
radeon video fail
Posted: Sat 13 Apr 2013, 03:07

Hmmm, posted this a couple of days ago - but where did that post go? Grits teeth and tries again. I have run this iso (alphaos4) on a couple of laptops with radeon video. In both cases the system booted but was unusable as X was a mess of blobs. Wouldn't switch to a console, and I didn't see a point during boot where a kernel parameter could be added. I guess this is a 'no modeset' situation. The only way out was to power cycle. Compaq V2000 with Radeon XPress and a ThinkPad R40 with Radeon Mobility. Any suggestions about this? AlphaOS would likely go well on these machines, but sadly this problem means I may never know.

Uninstalling isn't a big matter. Just remove the savefile and a fresh install.
I'll give this a try later. Thank you.
I did notice the driver was for an older kernel though. So don't know how that will manage.

I think you maybe need some firmware file from that package, because kernel module is already installed
