I installed ff from ppm and it works very well. Fonts look great everywhere, especially in ff. 96 dpi is OK for native screen resolution.

I tried this "raring" puppy, but I wasn't impressed. Same old, same old.

I mean, it's well done, but it doesn't bring anything new. Same good points, same irritants, as any other "raw" Puppy.

The flexibility of the savefile is what keeps puppy popular, of course.
And the simplicity of running as "root". But...

No plugins for abiword, so only basic writing; you're out of luck if you need to import another format. No real reader : the "defaulttextviewer" is only a simpler text editor. Same wm, jwm, even "updated"; no attempt to harness the power of rox as environment manager. Same old, same old.

I have been watching how it goes with glib 2.36 bug. The bug affects so many distros and applications atm, that the fix should be sure. Also ubuntu firefox version has got official bug confirmed status today. So...It should now only be the matter of the time.

Jwm has been in so active development recently that I will use it surely. If there pops up jwm related bugs, they can be directed to the jwm development. I will compile the latest version when I create next build. It will have 3.8.10 kernel or 3.9 depending of aufs3.9 existence.

Barry Kauler has again improved new xorgwizard and I need to download new woof2 soon.

About abiword. I wont use my time to improve it. I dont use it. For me it is Libre Office sfs. Period. I just use brilliant get libre office pet and update my version at infrequent intervals. I include abiword so that people dont have to ask how to get in to the build. But if someone wants to improve its abilities with packages and extra features...go ahead. I am willing to include them.

The development benefits dpup wheezy also. The problems with soon released wheezy will be quite the same as with raring. The work with this build will grow fruit with dpup wheezy also.

Upup Raring 3.8.7 has been uploaded. A lot fixes has been included. I recommend strongly to update into this update.

I've tried Raring 3.8.7. but freezes after configuration like 3.8.4
After restart of X service computer freezes after a few seconds... I don't know what is problem (Kernel? X11?).

I've an Intel 4000 video chipset.

A bit of good news, the recently released proprietary nvidia driver 173.14.37 has compiled successfully in Upup Raring 3.8.7 in my GeForce FX 5200 graphics card machine. The previous version 173.14.36 was no good on a number of recent kernels.

Glxgears is more like 1400 FPS as opposed to around 400 FPS with nouveau.

It was a bit fiddly, I needed to run fixmenus to get the GUI to appear in the menu and at one point it hung as a blackscreen and I had to reboot, but got there in the end and selected a resolution via the new xorgwizard.

I won't try to make a .pet of this because I think the next Upup Raring will have a different kernel, but at least nvidia are still supporting the older cards with newer kernels it seems.

Pemasu, when you put Raring (and Precise) on a newer kernel, would you please include a much
later version of gnome mplayer than 1.03? 1.03 sometimes fails to sync video and sound.

I tried at least a couple of ways of updating mplayer but failed. So I wound up installing VLC on
both Raring and Precise. But VLC is a monster that I don't need.

Surely my own compile would be much more minimalistic. I would try to drop pulse dependency out, apple device out, try to compile it as gtk2 app ...and so on.

Does the library structure of Upup support this new Ubuntu built-in package? A method of orgainzing things you and I love....pics.

I think the Shotwell starts ok, imports pics, shows them, but publishing the pics to the web sites would need a lot more gnome stuff.

gnome mplayer 1.03 sometimes fails to sync video and sound

When I drag an mp4 video file(a big file 200mb) on the mplayer window it
doesn't play sometimes or it delays a couple of seconds before playing.

But I do the drag again and I can get it to play,
but it didn't sync the sound with video. non-syncing is a serious problem.

it as a 207 mb mp4 file and dragged it on the mplayer window.

Pemasu, I got a working gnome-mplayer 1.08 via your instruction on
raring. Thanks much. I first used "remove built-in packages" to get
rid of 1.03 (don't know if that step was necessary or not). I tediously
installed the libs one by one (there has to be a better way ) But
when finished downloading them I could simply click on a video
and it plays ... so a symlink was established ok.

I use alien2puppy

I explain how to use it in my tutorial to make audacity.

It needs devx file loaded to do stripping.

Just put debs in a folder, and run script. Change .desktop file so
it resembles the old one by pemasu. Then make pet package
with dir2pet command
