Subject description: Cant install puppy on sempron based emachine

I have an old emachine, specs below, i would like to get a version of puppy running on; I have tried numerous ubuntu distros and it won't install; Peppermint 3 will install but its not stable (crashes randomly) I have tried several puppy versions and they will not install as well - I have dozens of linux/ubuntu/other linux installs under my belt, but this one machine refuses to take linux in any form. Any advice on versions/install switches/etc would be appreciated; memtest is fine as is the install media; specs are below thanks

It is an old emachine, sempron based -

In what way does Puppy or Peppermint crash?

EDIT: if you hear a clicking sound from the system (you may need to take the case door off to hear it) then that would point to the hard drive rather strongly. It's a common thing with older computers...
