Abiword speaks Dutch
Hello Bert
Hello Karl
Hello L18L
Bert, if you still have problems with the Abiword Dutch locale file, try the ones attached to this message, they work for me (Precise Puppy 5.5).
For those who prefer LibreOffice:

glipper and other....
Basically yesBert wrote:...Glipper: so you compiled Glipper-source with -enable-nls. Is it as simple as finding the source code and doing? (I've never compiled) and then replacing the old Glipper with this new one?Code: Select all
make glipper-source-enable-nls
Code: Select all
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
I do not know how to make really small executables.
I know upx but there are also other tricks.
But the expert on this is Karl.....
[edit] There is the solution [/edit]
This is only interesting if you extend the default langpack-template like I have done.Bert wrote:...So far I forgot to do this...would it be possible to explain why to do so in a few words?
- use pinstall_hacks.sh
- add some files which momanager does not take, simple example:
/root/my-documents/clipart/LIESMICH-clipart.txt
(BTW I see now that I have just translated content of README-clipart.txt. I like not to overwrite when changing locale.....)
If the template is in /mnt/home it can be used from different puppies.
(no special langpack for different puppy)
You make langpack_nl in another puppy (starting with your langpack from 1st puppy)
Here is how I do it:Bert wrote:2. My root folder is getting rather crowded with all the momanager files..Should I keep them there, or move them safely away or just delete them?
-create langpack
-move langpack to /mnt/home
-test langpack from newly startet puppy pfix=ram
-delete momanager* files (directories and tgz)
No and yes.Bert wrote:3. Wouldn't translating be easier and faster just using Poedit or Geany and using Manager Mo as a perfect checklist?
No
For the shell scripts (most of puppy is shell script) you would need the POT file to begin. It is created by momanager and not saved.
Momanager creates the MO file in the tgz format for easy exchange
(I think mcewanw, zigbert and rcrsn51 would like to receive some translations this way)
Yes, waiting more than 1 minute for manager can be annoying
fastest is
start with momanager to select
cd /tmp/momanager
LOOP
-edit PO file
-use msgfmt from command line in /tmp/momanager ( automatically by poedit?? )
-test
END LOOP
maybe select again in momanager to create tgz
... vicmz whose writing skills are very much appreciated has entered the scene.Bert wrote:...I'm certain others will find all this useful too. ( Like I learned things from the Danish thread Maans started.)
Victor, will you take the challenge of creating "momanager for dummies"

You made my day!
It works perfectly now in Precice Puppy 5.5.
In a moment of brilliant daringness, I decided to rename your folder Abiword-2.8 to Abiword 2.9 and Bingo! : the Abiword (2.9.2) in raring upup is also in Dutch
Gratefully,
Bert

Actually I got those files from here:
http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/pupp ... 486-2s.pet
As they work for both 2.8 and 2.9, I include both folders (Abiword-2.8 and Abiword-2.9) in langpack_es, for Barry's Puppies use 2.8 and 01micko's and some puplets, 2.9.
Off-topic: Has anyone made a LibreOffice 4 SFS yet? So far I made langpacks for a v3.5 SFS that works in all official builds. I'd do a v4.x SFS myself using Get-LibreOffice but my connection is too slow for that (mobile phone through PGPRS Connect).
Actually I am a dummie, that's why you always roll eyes to me, like this ---> ----I'm jokingL18L wrote:... vicmz whose writing skills are very much appreciated has entered the scene.

I'd love to do that right now, but my job is first - I have to write 12 paperwork files for a subject called English for Technical Purposes (of a three year career Bachelor of Computer Science), and 72 paperwork files for three Computer Science courses. I have to organize a writing schedule.
I've been taking many screen captures, I even made a PDF in Spanish recently. I think I can write something as simple and direct as possible, with further information, and include many pictures. Just don't set a deadline to me. I like to write tutorials as brief as possible so that reading the info is quick, time-saving, although when the subject itself is somewhat complex I can't avoid longer explanations.
BTW, I finally got my glasses, my monitor has a filter, and my Puppy is full of dark themes. If I'm less time online it means I'm preparing my classes (or I caught the dengue fever --not kidding, I live in the border with Paraguay and the money exchange is on their favor, so they are coming to my country to buy goods, and they are bringing the dengue darn mosquitoes ).

I've downloaded all pdf and mp3 files of level 1. I printed the pdf's, and my actions player has the mp3's.
Regarding LibO, I'm looking for a ready-to-download sfs file, as I said my connection is too slow to make it myself and I can use Puppy at home only, if I go to an internet café I can't use get-libreoffice from Windblows. I think I'll try downloading the deb's from the official site.

Opera NL-pet
Barry has compiled Opera 12.15 ( see his blog)
A faster download from dutch mirror nluug.nl:
That NLS langpack is 5.3MB...if you only need Dutch and want to 'travel light', here's a pet containing only the Dutch part of the NLS pack.
Barry heeft Opera 12.15 gecompileerd. (zie blog)
