For puppy 1 I setup my grub with two puppy entries.
- My stable installation "PFILE=pup001-none"
- An entry to do testing "PFILE=ask"
This way I could create two pup files in the same partition. That saved me from messing up my stable installation when I was compiling and trying out things.
In puppy 2 I haven't found a way to have multiple "save" files in the same partition. Is there a way in Puppy2 to specify the name of the save file?.
Is it possible to have multiple pup_save.3fs? (SOLVED)

I thought about doing this but by renaming them. Whichever one you want to boot from gets named pup_save.3fs. All the others could have names like bobs.3fs, or janes.3fs. Each one would need a text file to keep track of what it was to be renamed to when not in use. You would also need a script to do the renaming at shutdown. It may be a problem renaming them while they are in use, but I have done it many times manually without any side effects. I think that Barry mentioned something about it a while ago and he got mixed results.

Yes, you can have multiple pup_save.3fs files.
I documented this a couple of times on the developer news page:

...you'll have to scan down, can't recall what days.

apparantly as long as you have 2 pupsave*.3fs or more in the same physical location then puppy will automatically offer you a menu asking which one you want to use - OR if you want to start just in RAM
I just tried it by copying in a backup copy as pupsave1.3fs
and when i booted when it got to the pupsave load it threw me a menu
Choose pupsave
1 Load RAM
2 pupsave.3fs
3 pupsave1.3fs
enter number :-
love it
tk you Barry

Thank you.
I didn't see the responses to this thread until today. Somehow I missed it
Today by accident I found this while upgrading to Puppy 2.01
When I searched this thread to write down my findings, I saw that Iit had already been answered
