Game programming. MineCraft is popular why?

Not that I have ever tried it but I trust me lack the means to even try it.

I mean I fail with almost anything so the learning curve would be too much.

But it is extremely popular despite having such crude CGI
of buildings or cars or humans. Everything looks like LEGO
or worse. To me totally unappealing and worthless. A waist of time.

I want extreme photo realism of a building or a car or a human
they should look unmistakingly real and not faked. :)

I guess from a programming point of view the MineCraft
need much less codes due to simple graphic?
Would work on older machines with less memory?

Maybe even on a Smartphone?

Each to his own nooby...

I've spent many hours playing Minecraft since it's very earliest versions. I've played on online servers (been staff on a couple), solo, and on private LAN games with my kids and friends. There's little doubt in my mind it's one of the best games of all time (and believe me I've played most everything over the last 40+ years!) as it can be played in many different ways.

You soon get past the 'lego-ness' of it - just like kids get past the lego-ness of real lego! My kid's lego spaceships looked every bit as good as the Millenium Falcon in their eyes I'm sure :D

PS Isn't this more suited to off-topic?

Thanks. My best former work mate has a son some 15 years old
him and his best friend play it often his Dad told me.

I looked surprised but now when you tell me I maybe slowly
will be able to accept it is okay :)

Re off topic read this one Hehe

Off-Topic Area ยป Programming

So we are in Off-Topic Area but not Truly Off-Topic Area

because it is also about programming such games
or does it require less power from the graphics and the machine
maybe work on a Smartphone?

There is a version for smartphone but it's nothing like the PC version.Running Minecraft with max settings requires a reasonably beefy pc/graphics card.

I think one of the best things about Minecraft is that every world is different - they are procedurally generated (sort of constrained randomness), so you never know exactly what you'll get. I guess it's the same thing that makes Rouge-like games popular with certain people.

I say try it... you might be pleasantly surprised! :D

Paul, the sad thing is that I get hooked on anything I just try
so the only way to not get hooked is to never try them.

That is why I don't listen to Black Metal or Hard Rock and
stay with naive Rock'nRoll like Johnny Cash and Little Richard.

Nope all games are a no no I would spend all day gaming
and would have no time to Puppy Linux
But thanks for sharing your enthusiasm
I can share my enthusiasm for cute folding bikes maybe :)
Or of to have a Cat as pet animal?

I quite like green dots and red squares. I don't even know why we needed anything more than a ZX Spectrum anwyay!

Something odd about the link or it is about us
living in different zones so they can not send that one
where I live. It had a absolute pink back grould
and black text not a single thing of what you most likely
wanted me to see. Give some info on text and maybe
I find something like that they have copyright for for Europe?

Here's a transcript courtesy of a FAQ and likely copyright Rockstar:

Code: Select all

Degenatron commercial

Man: Are ya tired of dad?
Boy: Dad, no-one wants to hear your stupid Vietnam stories!
Man: Are ya tired of mom?
Mom: Hi angel, do you want to read a book or go outside?
Boy: Nooo!
Background: Degenatron!
Man: The arcade comes to your living room, only without the creepy guys
     offering to show you puppies.
Kids: Awesome!
Man: The degenatron, you can play video games just like you are in the Arcade.
Kids: Excellent!
Background: Degenatron!
Man: The degenatron gaming system plays three exciting games including Defender
of the Faith, where you save the green dots with your fantastic flying red
     square.
Kids: Cool!
Man: Monkey's Paradise, where you swing from green dot to green dot with your
     red square monkey.
Kids: That's rad!
Man: And Penetrator, where you smash the green dots deep inside the mysterious
     red square.
Kids: Wow!
Man: The Degenatron brings arcade realism to your living room. It can even take
quarters and a strange sweaty man comes by to empty the machine on
     Fridays.
Background: Degenatron!
Man: Degenatron, fighting the evil of boredom.
Kids: I'll never go to school again!
Background: Degenatron!
It's funny because the kids are salivating over three different fantastical games and yet they contain green dots and a red square which is what video games used to be like :) The point is it didn't matter because it was the gameplay and the experience and people's imaginations would do the rest.
