Looking for non puppy distro

I realize this is a loaded question but here goes.
Every time I try other distros, it seems I always come back to Puppy. It's like a large linux magnet that draws me back every time
. I would like to have an alternate distro that is simple, quick and has a robust repository. I still consider myself a newbie. I come from the Mac side of computing (since 1988). Maybe there is a pup that I am not aware of that offers me the latest versions of software?
I'd love to hear back from Pup users with their comments. Thanks so much!!

Someone just mentioned Arch as a minimal Linux that could maybe pinch-hit for Puppy, but then someone else said that
several Puppy versions based on Arch already exist. I don't know anything about it.

Just installed Solydx 32bit. So far I like it a lot! Great installer and very easy to use. Nice compliment to go along with Puppy.

I'm using Grub Legacy 2013 to boot the full installs of
Slacko and Solydx on my MSI netbook.
This is the complete Menu.lst:

SolydX is new and amazing. 900Mb DVD. I ran it live, usably fast without installing. It didn't ask me a single thing, left not a trace on my HD. I tried a lot of the generous software offerings, mostly the latest versions and whatever I tried worked. Clean, slick, impressive.
No, I am not going to install it. My custom frugal "Strobelinux" PreciseNop is here to stay, but If I didn't have it, and could tolerate a full install this might be considered.

Depends on if you accept to do full install or frugal install.
AntiX can do both and Knoppix and Slax and Porteus too
can do both on NTFS formatted HD
But then that is about it? All the rest only do full install?

AntiX is the only system (Puppy or others) with the new 3.xx kernels that will run 1024x768 resolution on my favorite laptop (Inspiron 700M) correctly.
Call me "Antifrugalista".

I never heard of Antix either. I'll have to look into that one.

Legacy 2013 and ISObooter are a few neat things that
rcrsn51 came up with recently.

AntiX and RedHat9 were the 1st Linux systems I tried
when I got my 1st pc in the summer of 2007.
