how do i update PPM?

Posted: Mon 20 May 2013, 10:45
by Semme
Open PPM >> hit 'configure pm' >> tick your repos like mine, then hit OK and *exit* the application.

Reopen >> confirm those repos are still checked, then hit 'update now' and OK all prompts.

Be patient.. The pkg lists will take some time to dwnld and convert..

Successful update should allow pkg installs and return audio.

upgraded the ppm successfully - the from pmusic help see attached dependency check output

When i tried to install ffmpeg from http://puppylinux.org/wikka/ffmpeg i was given the choice of i486 or i686. How do i know which one I need?

Also, I would like to have pschedule, however I got an error message after downloading - 'error, failed to install pschedule1.1.3'.

FFmpeg from the wikka breaks my ability to play local files. The build in PPM doesn't.

==

Read below and this brief post about processor architecture. To find yours, it's: grep model /proc/cpuinfo

https://myonlineusb.wordpress.com/2011/ ... i686-i786/

==

Pschedule I don't have an answer for..

Code: Select all

sh-4.1# grep model /proc/cpuinfo
model		: 14
model name	: Genuine Intel(R) CPU           T1060  @ 1.60GHz

Run these:

Code: Select all

cp /bin/mount ~/
gzip mount
.. then upload ~/mount.gz as an attachment.

==

Now open your /root folder and rt-clk an empty space >> 'window' >> 'terminal here' and:

Code: Select all

wget http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/pet_packages-lucid/ffmpeg_libraries-i686-Lucid.pet
.. then try the install.

If nogo, suspect corruption. You might have to run an fsck on the partition in question..

The processor stuff <for the time being> can wait..

Your mount file checks out. No guarantees but, you could try this with the pkg offered here.

:idea: Run this against petget:

Code: Select all

find /usr/local/petget -type f -print0 | xargs -0 md5sum > ~/petget_checksums.md5

Go into petget and change the sort criteria to 'sort by name, acending'.. then rerun and post the results.

You might need to rt-clk an empty area >> options >> filer windows >> sorting >> dirs come first.

what is petget? is it the same as ppm?

Posted: Tue 21 May 2013, 12:37

I think Semme might have meant to go into /usr/local/petget with ROX, then sort by clicking on a column heading.

Posted: Tue 21 May 2013, 13:40
by stiginge
did the sorting, but when I ran the same command again, there was no change and no new checksummd5 file at /root

Flash- you ARE correct! Thank you. The extra.. ROX options >> dirs come first!

==

Petget files check out. With neither an install disk nor live cd, your best option as I see it >> reinstall petget.

Right.. you 'can't' install anything cause you broke something. SOL? Perhaps uninstall your upgrades?

I take it you mean Lucid 5.2.8-005
Looks like the ffmpegs in the puppy-lucid repo are all too old.
Not sure what that one in the wikki is, but may not be any good for Lucid.

You may need to compile ffmpeg 0.11.x in Lucid if Pmusic 3.3.0 needs it and if you insist on having this version rather than sticking with an earlier one.

I think Zigbert has mostly been developing Pmusic in Slacko 5.5 which has this more recent ffmpeg.

There is a gtkdialog4-0.8.3-i486.pet in the puppy-common repo.
