Installation fail: Puppy Precise on thin client (Solved)

#1 Post by gert3d »

The installation went well on the t5720 thin client, which has a 512Mb flash type HD.

When firing up again without the USB-key, I see:

Updating ESCD ... Success
Verifying DMI Pool Data .........

and then nothing.
Any idea's?
Thanks

It sounds like you have not installed a bootloader on the hard drive.

Boot again off the flash drive.

Run System > Grub4Dos Bootloader Config

Indeed,
I probably made several mistakes:, I did not mark the drive as bootable, I did not use the flash drive option, but normal HD.

I decided to change the MBR from the first try to SYSLinux mbr.

Now all works fine. I saw the choice to load puppy in memory or not, and I have chosen not to do that. After booting I see with 'free' that only 85Mb is free out of 498Mb total memory. I would have expected more to be left available, since the whole package is only 171Mb !

Anyway, so far so good. I plan to add mailserver functions.
