This follows from requests for this in another thread.

This thread is only for posting what works for you.

General discussion of the subject should be in already established threads.

So did any of those things work for you?

A document intended to provide information and scenarios.

@Kooliepup helps in an effort to centralize the UEHI topic relating to Puppy PC setup and boot with successful scenarios we've found..

Most/some/many Puppy members, by now, have a Google ID. Many of those with Google IDs also use it for sharing information via the Puppy thread on Google Plus.

I have created a document just for the purpose of being a springboard for all Puppy developers to incorporate its information into their distros for user access and PC startup understanding.

The community document created is here: titled 'Your PC BIOS and your Puppy Disto Startup'

Currently, that document will be contributed to by any one of us who has a Google ID. It is something that can be downloaded into any format one wants for his/her needs: thus that can be odt/doc/pdf/html/... whatever should the user want.

It is ONLY ASKED, that should you contribute understand that, like the forum, you contribute freely as this is an Open Puppy Contribution document. ALSO, ANY Puppy member, who has any idea on how to a editor, can contribute to the document and its format. This is a community document for community contribution to community understanding of Booting Your PC from a Puppy ISO or CD/DVD disc.

Please contribute, correct, add pictures, tables, audio, video or everything that you, personally feel, would help users understand the relationship between your computer's BIOS and "Puppy Distro Start-up".

If you do NOT have a Google ID, disregard this thread as it does NOT apply to you. You will still be able to read the document as it will be publicly search-able. (This post is NOT an encouragement to anyone to get an ID. Again this is NOT an encouragement and DOES NOT REQUIRE A Pro or Con RESPONSE. Should anyone want to contribute, just contribute.)

My reason for selection of this approach is that it freely allows open collaborative contribution to a single document for the community's good. Your contributions to it are for the public Puppy membership's use, in what it intends to provide.

This ALSO, STRONGLY encourages everyone to appropriately comment in this thread, as well, as you choose. Please, everyone, understand that the document is aimed to be an easy source for users to understand and take appropriate steps in support of their PC for use with Puppy Linux. And, it is a "document". It is NOT a blog, and it is NOT a forum. So, please don't use it as such.

Found a HOWTO that is most likely to be easier to follow than anything I would write.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

It worked for me.

Thanks for the link.

But it says this "(see the "Creating an EFI partition" paragraph below). "

So it is not about doing frugal install on same partition untouched.
It is about dedicating space for Linux.

That would ruin the warranty that the retailers we have here in Sweden.
No criticism at all just how typical the majority view of Linux are.

I don't trust many noobs wants to lose warranty just to have linux on a new machine. Maybe if one buy it second hand or buy two of them one for win8
and one for linux?

Another tool to add to the toolbox, or update the one you have.

The latest System Rescue CD handles UEFI.

It also enables all the devices previously mentioned in this thread.

It is not a toy.
If you don't know how to use it, leave it alone.

LightHouse64
Puppy community member @TaZoC has completed and release to Puppyland his latest distro; namely LightHouse64. It comes with UEFI ability.

Working Example
For those who have UEFI capable PC, he provides a simple, yet clear approach to its use, here. His description with pictures is geared for our installation understanding and use.

FATDOG
The makers of the FATDOG distro, versions 600+ inspired much of the UEFI work used by TaZoC, as he writes. FATDOG-6xx comes with UEFI ability.

Working Example
For those who have UEFI capable PC, FATDOG provides an approach to UEFI use, here.

UEFI Reference and HIstory
Also, on the LH64 site there is provided this wiki link, too.

Ooops sorry should have read this one
This thread is only for posting what works for you.
But not every noob will be able to do this:
You will need some space on your hard drive to create a couple of new partitions.
Where I buy the Win8 computer they say their warranty goes
if one do such changes within the two years of warranty.

How many noobs would risk such daring consequences.

And I have now been using puppy since at at least 2008
and have never had any need for creating new partitions.

So something odd is going on. And AFAIK the devs of FD
wrote that they had trouble with one of the needed files?
But maybe they have sorted that one out now then?

I have left them alone due to I know how annoying I can be
so if they have solved it then I missed out on that happy news.

Where can I find that text that they now have all the files included
and working? I don't remember tech term but maybe signed certificate
or similar or confirmed signature file?

Moving right along...

The latest SuperGrub2 CD now handles UEFI.
It is also available in Rescatux.

I'm not putting links to this stuff, and inviting dummies to deposit more piles of cow manure here.

They are all easy to find.
