Is anyone aware of a Precise VLC.pet (it seems I need a front-end too?) - I'm trying to play a dvd movie in Macpup 529 (my backup pup
. I'm open to other possible solutions.

have you tryed vlc-gtk-2.6.8-noarch in Puppy Packet Manager?
or:
I think vlc full from slacko should work in precise:

Hello Hayder, find the file 'defaultmediaplayer' in /usr/local/bin.
Rt-clk, 'open as text' and swap >> exec gnome-mplayer "$@"
.. with >> exec vlc "$@"
