A quicky sound device chooser on Puppy`s tray icon.?

#1 Post by sunburnt »

The alsa wizard has a button on it that runs the sound device chooser gui.
But when I made a desktop icon to run it directly it destroyed the sound.
Obviously the main alsa gui code handles the device ( and other ) changes.
An added or modded script would fix this and allow the chooser gui to be used independently.

# Mainly being able to quickly and easily switch between speakers and a headset + mic. would be nice.

Mic. control`s a separate device if there`s a desktop boom type mic. Profile selection?

# On the sound tray icon, a menu item "Sound Devices" would allow rapid selection.

After all, Puppy is all about "ease of use". Right?

Hey, Thierry !

/usr/bin/alsaconf unloadds most sound drivers and might rewrite files in /etc/modprobe.d directory ( since approx Lupu-5.2.x - before it was /etc/modprobe.conf ) .

Better you bought 6 of your sets and sent one of them to Barry and probably 2 to some kernel.org people and two to some alsa.org members .

Then you might find the better kernel drivers for your HW .

Hi Karl; The headphones and mic work when they`re selected, not a module problem.

My suggestion was to make the switching of sound devices quick and easy.
In the case of both sound out and sound in, a profile setup could control this.

But... I know what you`re saying about the gifting of the equipment.!
That would usually get some response, where as requests probably wouldn`t.

### There are folks here at the Puppy forum that make the base Puppy releases.
Many good ideas here have not been incorporated into the base Puppies.
It seems that in some regards that Puppy is "standing still". More integration?

No idea how multiple sound card wizard is working .

I recently had to recognize, that the onboard sound of my 2008 board - bought second hand - was just not working , because the connectors to the board aren't tight in all directions .
Same probs I have with the fan - but due to the cooler block being really huge, it does not matter that much
( normal 36°C , compiling 40°C , compiling without fan 55°C ) .

Hey Karl; It seems like hardware is getting lousier and poorer quality.

Son`s game PC quit after a year, he had a 2 year warranty so he got a new one.

The daughter`s Dell quit after 2.5 years, only the case is still usable to her.
An AMD apu, motherboard, 8gb ram, and 600w pwr. unit is about $200 U.S.
It`s an A8 3870K 3ghz quad core apu with a 6550 graphics unit all on one chip.
The chip also has USB-2+3, giga LAN, and SATA interfaces on it.

The AMD A10 apu is the chip going into both the new PS4 and the xBox1.
