my hardware feedback and problems

#1 Post by Giorgio »

Hi,
i'm from Italy, i'm a roman-puppian!

Since 0.99 version of puppy my hardware was correctly recognized.
I have a Celeron 500Mhz with 256 MB ram, two HD with various partitions.

My usb flash drives work very well.
Those are usb2 but i have usb1 port...and the average measured speed is the same in read and write: 600-700Kbyte per second.

Creative soundblaster live works well since my first 0.99 puppy.

The same my drive's and my harddisks.

The same my vga monitors (acer 17'' and adi 15'')

The same my ps2 italian keyboard.

The same my ps2 mouses (2 or 3 button).

The same my 1-euro-price microphone :D

The same my Atlantis Web Runner 56k serial external modem.

Ati Xpert 2000 32 mb video board work very fine, but have some problem with xorg.
Sometimes it doesn't work when i try to install xorg...and the few times that i can install it...my AltGr+button characters don't work...i can't write the '@' :(
With old Xvesa there are no problems :D

My Epson 670 printer work fine.
In have some little problem to print a rotated sheet...but it work well.

My ADSL usb modem (Alcatel/Thomson Speedtouch 330) doesn't work.
I have tried the driver downloaded from sourceforgenet, i compile it in 108r1 puppy with devxxx,...but doesn't work...
The only distribution that can connect me to the internet with usb ADSL modem is Kanotix....but it can't disconnect me....and i pay every minute of adsl connection....

I don't know if you like this kind of hardware-feedback...i hope it was good...

Bye

thanks, any feedback is helpfull to make Puppy better :)

the@: maybe your right ALT-key does not work?

type in a consolewindow "xev".
Now press your right ALT-key.

now you should see something like this in the console:
KeyRelease event, serial 29, synthetic NO, window 0x2800001,
root 0x45, subw 0x0, time 13568980, (376,311), root:(427,378),
state 0x80, keycode 113 (keysym 0xfe03, ISO_Level3_Shift), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:

Important is the 113, that can be different on your keyboard.

Now open leafpad, add these lines, and save the text as "/root/.Xmodmap"

Code: Select all

 clear Mod2

 keycode 113 = Mode_switch

 add Mod2 = Mode_switch
Then restart X.

If that does not help, I can give more hints.

The ALT-gr chars work fine on both my IT keyboards (one is a regular PS2 105 keys model and the other one is a non-standard luminous thing I bought at PC-City).

Giorgio, did you install the Italian locale it_IT@euro from the control panel ?

Also: Beaver don't seem to be able to handle some national chars no matter what keyboard layout and locale I am using. Other applications work like a charm though.
