Puppy 4.20 and RaLink Wifi

#1 Post by jhiggz »

This is making me a little nuts. Have read up on network issues here but still can't get onto my Wifi from my Dell D610 laptop using it's RALink wireless card, apparently a known issue.

My network is visible and correctly identified except that Puppy interprets the security as WEP, while my network is actually set up for WPA/WPA2, TKIP-or-AES

Reading that WPA is not directly supported in 4.2 I installed the following PETS in varying orders and combinations.
Wpa_supplicant-0.6.9-i486.4X
Wpa_gui-qt4-i486.pet
Rtutilt_.18
Rtutilt_v0.14
Rtutilt-V12.pup
Qt4.53-2-w5
Frisbee-beta-2.pet.

I can invoke the utilities (those above and the defaults in Puppy 4.2), and there is some handshaking going on, but I'm never connected, and never able to browse. No success with hard IP assignment/gateway either.

Any thoughts? What info, logs, or errors might I post to get some help on this? Thanks

jhiggs, welcome to the forum and the world of Puppy Linux! I do not use the Puppy version that you have nor have the same wireless hardware. But, I just wanted to welcome you here. We have a lot of folks with quite a range of experiences but it may take a bit for them to log on. Meanwhile here is a suggestion: Use the Google search of this site to find some previous posts of your situation. The link is: http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

Mate with that hardware try an updated puppy

Lucid 5.28 v5 would be a no issue Puppy
and use Frisbee to setup wireless...
Job done.

The Frisbee Pet(installer) is not activated
and is either under networks or Internet in Puppy Lucid.

" When you boot a recent Puppy....install Frisbee.

Frisbee is either enabled automatically or is an option >> Pet
in Network or Internet >> in the Puppy menu.
Sometimes it is in the Connect menu on the screen.

In Lucid 5.28 it is in Network????????????

Run the pet

wait at least 10 seconds

Now try Connect...Frisbee should be a third option.

""""""

See my post here for downloads.

Squeeze and Slacko are there as well.

Get back to us mate,
try my picks....
but remember that 4.2 was a great puppy but old for wireless.

Chris.
