Broadcom wl driver for kernel 3.10.1 pae

#136 Post by peebee »

The pet for the Broadcom wl driver for kernel 3.10.1-pae is available from:

broadcom_sta_v5.100.82.112_patched_x86_32-k3.10.1pae-slacko.pet

If your wifi is disabled on boot - you may need "rfkill unblock wlan"

(p.s. I had a lot of trouble downloading Slacko 5.5.71 from Mick's servers to the UK - very slow speeds and corrupt downloads - just interested if anybody else has had these problems?? Eventually managed it with Mick's help - thanks).
ImageLxPup = Puppy + LXDE
Main version used daily: LxPupSc; Assembler of UPups, ScPup & ScPup64, LxPup, LxPupSc & LxPupSc64

Problem with bootmanager GUI on small displays, this naturally concerns also Slacko, see here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 833#713833
My proposal is to use <notebook>, what do you think (see screenshot)?
Script (real .gz) also attached.

I did a manual frugal install of 5571 to a 4gb flash drive, it's
running on an EeePc 701SD which is connected to an external lcd
monitor + using a wireless mouse/keyboard combination.

I installed xine-ui in ppm, it plays a dvd movie fine but crashs if I
try to go full screen with it, will give vlc a try later.

EDIT:I installed openboxp-1.0.1.pet and xine goes fullscreen without crashing now.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I might give it a try on my eee and enable debug in JWM and make a report to Joe.

Cheers

Yeah, there are still quite a few GUI in Puppy that are not eee/netbook friendly. One workaround I use is the _check_screen_size_if_ smaller_than_this_then_vscrollable_ or something like that! I did submit a few of those to Barry, but well, you know, his blog gets busy and he probably missed them.

We really should start a thread for that. That way we have a collection and a link to send BK. Eventually they will make it into woof.

Hi Micko,
I'm testing 3.10.1 and have a quick question:
my xorg.conf wrote:Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "intel"
VendorName "Intel Corporation"
BoardName "Intel Corporation Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "DRI" "true"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection
and
xorg.log wrote:(WW) intel(0): Option "AccelMethod" is not used
Why is that? What's being used instead? Do I have "sna", or not?

Here's xine running under jwm on the latest raring 3.9.9, xine is a
newer version, the pc has the intel ironlake chip, pemasu compiled the
latest intel driver for this new release, lots different.
Anyhow, it doesn't crash under jwm.

In the second post of the thread 01micko wrote: I will stick with k3.10 series for the high end (PAE) version. I will wait until 3.10.1 before compiling. With the newer kernels though and an older lib base (slackware-14.0's base is approaching 12 months old, that is ancient in Linux Years) we run the risk of poor driver support in the graphics stack. A few kernel devs are also Xorg devs (Alan Cox comes to mind) so the kernel and Xorg are undergoing some parallel developments.
Billtoo, therein is your answer. I doubt that a newer intel driver will compile against the current mesa/xorg. I can try it I guess.

See if it crashes with k3.4.52 and that will supply proof (that is, if your chip even runs).

I didn't mean to be critical, the fact that I can watch dvd movies on my old eeepc 701sd under slacko is great, they play perfectly,

I didn't mean to dodge the issue either. :) . We'll see what can be done.

As far as what I meant goes, does 3.4.52 run on the ironlake? If so, any good?

Here's xine running fullscreen (Welcome to MoosePort) under jwm.
It wouldn't under jwm on the eeepc but okay here.
One advantage of the newest intel driver is that it supports 2
monitors, this one doesn't offer that option in pupcontrol.

EDIT:
I moved my flash drive over to a pc with the intel ivybridge chip,
xine works fine on it too at full screen.

I will test directly 8)

----test result----

Negative

I think because syntax for the output of -formats and -codecs is different (note, now using ffmpeg-2.0 because of mplayer issues).
I have tested on
slacko-5.5.71-SCSI.iso
http://01micko.com/packages/ffmpeg-2.0-i686-s14.0.pet
http://01micko.com/packages/mplayer-exp ... -s14.0.pet
http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/ffconvert-1.3.2.pet

No problem but need to use 'h264' and 'ac3' instead of 'libx264' and 'libfaac' for the ffconvert MPEG4-AVC encoding.

This is odd. Have tried and tried to recreate a full install to USB using F2FS installer and failed every time. Terminal crashes immediately after gparted has finished.

Running pristine LIve media (DVD) and also tested via Netbooting from LH64. All seemingly works as expected on my meager Laptop.

BTW, thanks for the IP address in the taskbar icon. Great addition. Dont have to open the "Network status Information" to see current IPs. THX!

My system with FF looks like below. Again, running in LIve mode. Running browsers as root...not spot.

Question
When a FF browser is running, is the system doing compression/decompression of FF program modules while FF operates?

Curious

After examing, these issues do NOT apply to distro operation

#154 Post by gcmartin »

Help, I have found 2 issues

Issue 1 - Running V5571 via LIve media
Anyone know why MTPaint's "Tools Toolbar" settings (see View menu item) don't work, grayed out, and cannot be selected? Cannot select outline selections or etc on that toolbar.

Issue 2- Booting V5571 after positioning DVD contents in folder for boot use
Anyone have a problem after manually setting an HDD for Frugal where you get a

Code: Select all

"uncompression Error
system halted"
failure in boot; thus system locks at this boot error? pathname is /mnt/sda3/LinuxBoots/01Micko/Slacko56beta/5571 to boot materials in GRUB4DOS menu.lst. Is there a pfix parm necessary?

Ideas?
Edited: Corrected messages at boot time trying to read from a "bad disk"

Do you have an image file open and being viewed in Mtpaint, when this happens? I think Mtpaint has to be viewing an image so these settings are active.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
