just for information...
here have made a «skizofrenic» wheezy-raring putting the raring-3.9.9.2 kernel in place of the wheezys ones ... seems working ok so far ...
cheers, charlie
Was there a strategic advantage to this - or was it just to see if you could?

Have you tried loading any new apps to see what happens?

Careful, there, JamesC. People may think you're a lewd penguin... 8)

On a serious note, I came on the thread today to report a bug. But not one of pemasu's,
don't worry.

See attached picture.

The solution is to use the older resizepfile script, not the new one. (Sorry WXYZ and co.)

Or to bypass the script altogether and type directly in console:

cd /mnt/home
echo xyz000 > pupresize.txt

xyz being any number. With today's large hard drives, any number below 1 Gb should be safe to enter. So you could have
echo 999999 > pupresize.txt
or
echo 389000 > pupresize.txt
You don't need to have multiples of 16Mb.

The enlarger script integrated in the Puppy at boot time is healthy. It will pick up the
number in the /mnt/home/pupresize.txt file and add the specified number of megabytes
to the personal pupsave file.

I hope this helps.

PET vs PPM Updates?

#366 Post by edoc »

I recently installed fldigi v. 3.2.0 (an Amateur Radio digital mode & rig control app) via Puppy Package Manager.

I just downloaded a PET update v. 3.2.1 to that via the source http://www.w1hkj.com/

Will the PET update the existing install, overwrite pieces of it & not others and make a mess, or will it create a duplicate install?

The first is best.

The second means I need a different way to update my existing install.

If the third - what is the best way to completely uninstall the existing version of fldigi in order to replace it with the newest?

Thanks!

Network Button Bug?

#367 Post by Fabio T »

Perhaps I've fount a bug in the Network Button inside in the /root/network directory.

This directory is quite fine to use networked units without use YASSM and type password on every access.

But....

In Raring 3.9.9.2, I click on this button and system ask me for username and password of networked units.
But after this, it displays unit names but if I click on each one it opens an empy window for each one.

I've copied script from Precise 5.7.1 (I've opened network button with menu option "Look Inside...",copied files from Precise system to Raring system) and voilà, the script now works perfectly.

A bug in the patch scripts?

I have a problem with 3.9.9.2 when my laptop goes into screensave mode - the screen goes dark (with some backlight showing) and I cannot wake it up. Could this be a problem with ACPI? Does anyone have any ideas what causes this behaviour or suggestions about how to stop this occurring please?

Laptop is a Toshiba TE2100 with nVidia graphics, 2Ghz cpu and 500MB ram. (I don't have this problem when running Slacko...). Thanks for any ideas.

[SOLVED] gnumeric preview not working

#372 Post by charlie6 »

Hi,
this also happens using abiword.
preview calls /usr/bin/evince-previewer ...which is not present
To fix this:
ads a symlink /usr/bin/evince-previewer pointing to /usr/bin/evince

hope this helps

Is there an imminent update about to be posted to Upup Raring 3.9.9.2?

I have two laptops here in need of updates - targeted for Raring - but I don't want to go through that if there is a newer version soon to be released.

Thanks!

Puppy Pogoplug Server?

#374 Post by edoc »

This is ancient by tech standards, 2010, but is this possible to do via Puppy?

http://lifehacker.com/5637092/turn-a-po ... web-server

I seem to recall someone posting here a small Apache-etc package in the past.

Double-cool if Citadel could be run via it plus a USB drive:

@edoc
Out of curiosity, is that a descendant of the Citadel mail-server that started
life as an Atari ST app many years ago ? :)

Best.

PogoPlugs are ARM devices, not x86 -- you'd have to adapt either FatDogARM or PupPi... good luck with that ;)

I'd hate to use anything other than a Puppy derivative but I suppose I can go with Plugbox Linux.
