How to install uzbl web browser in puppy 4.2.1?

#1 Post by MBlakeSmith »

Hi, I want to install the latest version of uzbl web browser in puppy linux 4.2.1. I have an intel celeron 500mhz processor, 256mb of ram, and 1GB of free hard drive space. Is there a PET package that will install the latest version of uzbl with all of its dependencies? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome there Mr.Smith. Is there a specific reason here or would a Ferrari like this fit the bill?

I'd like to install slimboat to see how it does, but I'm new to linux and I'm not sure how to install it. I installed a slimboat PET one time, but it was missing too many dependencies.

Folllow the instructions for Pup, then try'n start it from a console.

Sorry. Essentially it's portable. Dwnld anywhere and clk to extract.. /root's fine.

Extract those gstreamer libs to /root/slimboat/libs, then drag slimboat.sh onto your desktop.

Ckling doesn't work? Rename both with the txz extension. I've updated my post, above your last.

Both files now have the .txz extension. Clicking on them still doesn't do anything.

If I may interject, Puppy 4.2.1 is rather old and my concern is that the versions of glibc and other core libraries will be too old to run many of the recent browsers.

Here we go, libs already in place >> http://www1.datafilehost.com/d/8f745fd8

Drag slimboat.sh to the desktop and see she if she'll fire..

If not, there's always QtWeb.

Okay, I got everything extracted to the right directores, and I placed slimboat.sh on my desktop, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Go into SlimBoats directory >> rt-clk >> window >> 'terminal here' and type: ./slimboat.sh

What's the message?
