Can I update from 200 to 201 by changing pup_201.sfs?

If I just replace the files on my bootable drive that has 200 on it with the new 201 files, will that work as an update? Or do I need to do something special?

yep, just replace initrd.gz, pup_200.sfs with pup_201.sfs.
that should do it.

Funny, I get indicationsof 2.0.1 is booting up, but the stock wallpaper still says "Puppy 2.00". Maybe that was one of the items stored in pup_save? The background application still has the 2.00 one in it too.

Also from the release notes, MUT should be at 0.0.9c, but it shows 0.0.9b when you start it up.

I assume I really am in 2.0.1 though.

Not exactly earth-shattering, but may need to re-think some of this stuff...

Puppy 2.01 is more lenient when upgrading. It leaves most of your puppy's configuration intact.

It replaces rc.local saving a copy to /tmp/rc.local and a couple of other minor things.

I am actually glad that it respects the background and pinboard as I have customized them.

This has the most painless Puppy upgrade for me.

You can verify the version you are running by executing

Code: Select all

cat /etc/puppyversion

I copied over the initrd.gz and pup_201.sfs and rebooted. When I look at the /etc/puppyversion all I have is "0".

Have I travelled back in time?
