I created a new Puppy search engine using DuckDuckGo. For now searches only in this forum but it's going to grow bigger soon! If you have links to propose to be included, please do so! :)

Sites currently supported: murga-linux.com, puppylinux.com, puppylinux.org, bkhome.org, puppylinuxnews.org, puppy.b0x.me

And code for embedding this engine into another site:

Code: Select all

<iframe src="http://duckduckgo.com/search.html?site=murga-linux.com,puppylinux.com,puppylinux.org,bkhome.org,puppylinuxnews.org,puppy.b0x.me&prefill=Puppy Linux Search on DuckDuckGo&bgcolor=FFFFFF" style="overflow:hidden;margin:0;padding:0;width:408px;height:40px;" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Other websites? Ideas? Comments?

Thank you. I hate google. I won't talk about the forum's search. I bounce between Ixquick and duckduckgo.

Hi Christos,

Thanks for this great idea!

Today I saw your site is down...that motivated me to mirror your PupSearch page, trying to help spreading the load.

I've put my copy on a free host, we'll see how it goes :)

I briefly tried to do the same for Startpage and ixquick, but gave up, as I didn't find a way to include the puppy domains.

See my signature...

Thanks again.

Hi Karl,

Are you talking about the weebly.com address?

If so, I'd better move to somewhere else I suppose

Thanks

Hey Bert! Thanks for that!! :D

Unfortunately my website was hacked (at least that's what the hosting provider says), so they have temporarily disabled access to all my pages.

I hope i'll back soon with an updated pupsearch engine (i'm working on it!).

I'll upload the html and css files on github and post the link here, feel free to use any part of these you want!!

I like your signature buttons, they are very nice!! How did you created them?

Hello Christos,

Hope you'll be able to solve your site problems soon!

The buttons are made with a handy online generator :

http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/gradient/

I originally discovered this site for "favicon" making, but they have a "button maker" too and lots of other design stuff.

Do you know what IP adress Karl is talking about? It isn't yours, it isn't DuckDuckGo and it isn't Weebly.com.

That I meant . But probably it was talked about Google Search and not Google itself .

Nice to have another Search since Nooby does not post much anymore nor Beem
and BruceB had removed his advanced google search link from his signature .

host and dig commands

Code: Select all

host http://1.2.3.12/bmi/1.2.3.10/bmi/pupsearch.weebly.com
http://1.2.3.12/bmi/1.2.3.10/bmi/pupsearch.weebly.com has address 199.34.228.58

do not show something similar as

Yes, I totally agree that Startpage (and ixquick also) is a better search engine than DuckDuckGo.

Not only does it also have image and video search, but most importantly: search by date. I use this all the time when looking for Puppy info, because pages older than, say, 2010, are often completely outdated. For some subjects even older than 1 year means outdated...

The question is how to create a permanent Puppy Search Page based on Startpage or ixquick. I did not succeed setting the domains. It looks as if they do not allow it..( at least to my layman eyes) I've written to the company two days ago, asking for help, but no reply yet.

Another great search engine is the German non-profit Metager.

Weebly (free version) has a very simple statistics tool, showing the page hits and total amount of unique visitors, and no more...I cannot track you guys!

I don't know how reliable these statistics are, but at least a trend has become visible since the day I started it

In most cases the murga forum search here works to find what is needed .
But very often too much and if there are special chars like underscore much too much irrelevant hits .

Today it did not found , so I used the old well known search http://www.wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html that found a 100% hit at first place .

Then I used http://www.koulaxizis.com/pupsearch.html and also here the first hit was the same 100% hit as above .

Have added to the bookmark toolbar now :
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyLinuxSearchEngine

But for common developing Google is the best search engine for me compared to Yahoo and Bing .

If you bookmark https://startpage.com/do/search?q=host% ... nux.com%2F it brings up a search of the Puppy Forum, which you can refine by adding your keywords after host:www.murga-linux.com/.
