Hi!

I can't install Avidemux in Puppy Linux Slacko 5.6. I am surely doing something wrong.

If anyone could tell me how to install it, I will really appreciate it.

Thanks!

And why not? Unless you want something newer, try this one.

This problem happens when trying to open some videos from Avidemux but also when trying to see a movie with VLC.

H.264 detected. As far as I know, it has to be with codecs that are missing.

Is there a way to install all the codecs or most of them in order to open -almost- any kind of video file in Puppy?

Thanks again.

Unless you're willing to compile it yourself, use safe mode. As for VLC.. you mean the one from the devx?

For instance, when trying to open any of those videos with VLC, a message shows up saying that the video is h264 and that I can't do anything to solve it or something like that.

When I open the video with avidemux (safe mode), the video loads but when playing it distorts the sound.

In windows you have many codec packages such as Klite codec pack. Is it possible to install something like that in Puppy?

Thanks!

That codec's not only troublesome, but usually compiled during runtime with Avidemux.

If you check the menus, you'll see h264 support's been added. This of course guarantees nothing.

There is however one pkg which I haven't yet had the time to test.. Nevermind.

Concerning VLC, where'd you get it from? It's version?

Thanks for your help Semme! I've uninstalled VLC. Which one should I install? Regarding to Avidemux, I didn't find any h.264 support in menu.

Do you remember which VLC you had.. the one from Slacko's repo, right?

These videos you've got.. are they homemade jobs done on a Win box?

With VLC, you wanna have the ffmpeg libraries too.
Code:
sh-4.1# ffmpeg
FFmpeg version 0.6, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers
  built on Jun 19 2010 13:25:58 with gcc 4.4.3
  configuration: --enable-libvpx --prefix=/usr --disable-ffserver --enable-swscale --enable-pthreads --enable-small --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libfaac --enable-libfaad --enable-libfaadbin --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libx264 --enable-libxvid --enable-zlib --disable-armv5te --disable-armv6 --disable-armv6t2 --disable-armvfp --disable-iwmmxt --disable-yasm --enable-gpl --source-path=/mnt/sda7/ffmpeg-0.6 --enable-version3 --disable-debug --cpu=i686 --enable-nonfree
  libavutil     50.15. 1 / 50.15. 1
  libavcodec    52.72. 2 / 52.72. 2
  libavformat   52.64. 2 / 52.64. 2
  libavdevice   52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0
  libswscale     0.11. 0 /  0.11. 0
Codecs:
 D..... = Decoding supported
 .E.... = Encoding supported
 ..V... = Video codec
 ..A... = Audio codec
 ..S... = Subtitle codec
 ...S.. = Supports draw_horiz_band
 ....D. = Supports direct rendering method 1
 .....T = Supports weird frame truncation
 ------
 D V D  h264

If she checks out, you could try ? << Removed.

Hmm.. 528 plays the format without issue.

Go figure..
