What's the right way to make a .pet?

#1 Post by nilsonmorales »

dir2pet gives a detailed description of how to make a pet, these days that puppy supports .deb packages, sometimes it becomes difficult to provide a pet that it works without installing many .debs

Q Is valid integrate the libraries to a pet?

Q Who reviews the integrity of the pets before uploading any repository?

Q There is some official medium for developers and fans to offer their creations?

Q Syntax when writing the dependencies are important?

eg
+ xwd,+imagemagick or +Xwd,+ImageMagick

Q Another example when appointing a pet
differentiate the packets according to the Puppy version?

Acrobat_Reader-9.9.3-Lucid.pet or
Acrobat_Reader-9.9.3.pet

Q which is best?

Q That is what you should do and not within normal?

Q Really matters or just care that your pet works?

Thank you in advance.

PD. My english is not very good lookin ( SUCKS )

Hi.

I do create .pet packages only to convert them into .sfs files.

Generally I do include all the needed dependencies (if not already installed) into the .pet package ---> then converting it to .sfs file.

All of my programs are stored in .sfs files.

There are .sfs files with sizes from 11 KB up to 308 MB.

I do use my SFS P.L.U.S. RunScripts for the .sfs files.

So, I just click on menu entry or desktop icon and the program will be executed.

The .sfs file is loaded automatically first.

No need to load any .sfs file manually by sfs_load.

Currently there are 368 .sfs files on my local 'Module' directory which gives me 527 programs to use them out of the box. No save file is used and no installation is needed.

I do create .pet packages only to convert them into .sfs files.

I use new2dir make install mostly without creating the pet to see what actually installed .
Then I move everything to external USB drive to free space .
Probably I will make a pet of it someday .

A pet does not include dependencies that way .
Make sure if you copy/remove/copy dependencies into the pet-dir, that no hidden .wh. files are to be found therein .
Found that tar binary may choke occasionally about these .wh. files .

Make sure that there is a Readme about the pet somewhere , so appliers are informed, about what could be overwritten !
On full installations uninstalling a pet likely does not restore overwritten files, maybe leaving the system partly unusable .

For the right dependency syntax it needs to know about the correct writing of their package names .
But Puppy would still run if their entry is missing or incorrect .

One repo is the additional software section .
code.google and sourceforge provide space .
Also these datafilehost and mediafire sites .
There are at least three forum members that host projects I know of - I suspect you know some of them ( saturn, russnoodle, smokey01) .
