Copy (cloud service similar to Dropbox)

"Copy" seems like a nice alternative to Dropbox and similar services. I have just tried it and works fine, i'll create a pet for the client soon...

If you want to try it, use the link below, it's a referral link and we will both get 5 GB after the signup. :)

Important note: I'm thinking to move my packages from Source Forge to Copy because it gives the option to download files massively. So it would be very useful for me if you could signup through the referral link to give me more space for hosting the packages.Thank you!!

Registered. :) 20 Gb of cloud storage.
I won't put anything too sensitive in the cloud but there's no such thing as too much backup.

Your client pet wouldn't work in Lucid on my Athlon XP box.... got the dreaded "illegal instruction" message. Will try in Slacko a bit later.

Thanks for the referral.

EDIT:

Obligatory referral link https://copy.com?r=kiIxPp

Nope. Nothing doing. I tried my last name two ways and got the same "Technical Difficulties" panel, i.e. no results. Or maybe people from outside the US are not eligible?

In any case, thanks for your generous invitation, koulaxizis.

I'm sure I'll find somewhere else.

BFN.

I made the package on Slacko (as usual) and tested it on two computers, one netbook, one desktop. It worked fine... Try the package on Slacko and tell me what happened please, so i can fix it if i made something wrong! Thanks! :)

I'm sorry to hear this... :(
If you don't care about using a client, you can try https://mega.co.nz/, they were giving 50 GB, not sure if the deal is still available! You can also clean up your browser (i don't believe it's relevant but give it a try) and try again to register on Copy.

Works fine, 15GB cloud storage is more than enough for me (actually 2GB would also be O.K.)
It's always nice to have some spare space for backups and shared files! ;)

illegal instruction
that means it wants something the cpu does not have..eg sse2.... it would mean compiling for older cpu (pentium 2/3..athlon)..there is usually an option to do so.

thanks for the thread...off to check it out

As detailed by mikeb in the preceding post ........client pet was also a no go in Slacko 5.6 on the Athlon XP box.
But, client pet installed and working fine in Slacko 5.6 on an old P4 box.

yes i did go through the link.

Could not get the upload to work through the web interface :( .

The software is built for pretty recent systems so might be a while before I get to use it. (latest qt/libstdc++/glibc)

Do they have public sharing as thats very handy for our linux stuff?

You still have to install the app to get the referral bonus. But don't worry, any time you can! :)

Yes, they have public sharing, massive downloads (even the whole Public folder) and shared folders with fair sharing (Imagine I share a 3GB folder with three people. Under Copy’s rules, each user’s quota will only drop by 1GB. On other similar cloud storage or backup services, each user would lose the full 3GB from their allowance.)

Sounds like a good one.

I will get yer bonus :) .. newest puppy I have is Lucid which may not work but I have Slax 7 still around.. Some devs assume we update our systems every 2 weeks because they do lol.

One nice feature of dropbox is the ability to make your own apps... I have a bash script I can upload with. I will try other browsers to see what works and does not too.

Thanks for the extra space! :)

I inaugurate Puppy Stuff on "Copy" with updated sync clients!

- Fixed .desktop file with proper icon
- Autostart by default with Startup shortcut
- /usr/bin/ shortcut (type "copy" in terminal)

Have fun!! :)

Copy works here running Porteus XFCE - i just moved it to my portable apps directory and run it from there - if anyone wants a .desktop template for Porteus XFCE > Internet menu here is download, make sure to edit .desktop file Exec= and point it to where ever you store the copy executable.
