How to edit the menu system? (Solved)

#1 Post by williepabon »

Hi!
What is the tool to use to modify the menu, I mean to add, delete, move or change the hierarchy of the menu items that are included in the menu? Thanks.

The menu is generated by the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. So you can delete items from the menu by deleting or moving the .desktop files. You can change the category by changing the .desktop file.

There are some gui tools around for doing it. Search for pupmenu. But they are just editing the .desktop files.

Run fixmenus in console to refresh the menu if it doesn't do it automatically.

So, what you are saying is that in order to show, hide, or move to a different category, I have to modify the .desktop file of the app I want to change? Well, that's not difficult, but it's a hassle. I expected and app to do that with drag 'n drop capabilities. Thanks for the info.

williepabon,

PupMenuEdit (the menu editing module of PupMenu) can show or hide menu items, or move them to different categories.
