Mapping keys

#1 Post by Bushbuck »

I'm sure this will have been done to death before, but I can't find it. What ways are there of re-mapping keys?

I'd like to turn off the stupidly placed Caps Lock key, turn it into another Tab key, and create a Caps Lock somewhere on the edge of the keyboard on some "tumbleweed and crickets" key like "Sysreq".

I did this on my unlamented Vista by cobbling the registry, so I bet Slacko 5.6 can do it too.

You need to use xev to get the keycodes of the keys, and xmodmap to remap the keys. Try searching for xev* and xmodmap for more details.
Although I think there's a standard option to use caps lock as something else - check in Puppy's keyboard options.
