New and strange problem: LibreOffice

#736 Post by Deacon »

For some reason, I can't get LibreOffice to work for more than a second off the version in the PPM repository (it closes as soon as you type in a character) and when I tried LO 3.5 in the Slacko repo, I get a little "Fatal Error" popup that says:

"The application cannot be started.
exception occured raising singleton
"/singletons/com.sun.star.deployment.ExtensionManager": loading
component library failed:
file:///opt/libreoffice3.5/program/,,/program/libdeployment.so"

Any suggestions on which LO works best with X-Slacko, or did I end up removing another dependency?

I just tried 4.4.3 and it close after the splash window without an error message. I get the same error as you with 3.5, 4.3.x works but I can't find a link for it.

Edit:
You could try 4.3.4 in the Carolina repo http://smokey01.com/carolina/sfs/

Exactly the same with both versions I tried.

Just tried 4.3.4. What's the terminal command for LO writer? Loaded a file, attempted to modify with a few letters... and crash.

LibreOffice

Version 4.1.4.2 works perfectly in X-slacko 3b7 with the updated Tahr 3.14.20 non-PAE kernel swapped in. It also works fine in X-tahr 1b1. In X-slacko 3.0 it opens, I can check version or type some text in writer and then it just closes with no error message. At first it seemed to me that it was a function of resizing or moving the window, but then I just waited and it closed.. Turned off the automatic update check and restarted it and it is staying open. I have maximized, minimized, resized window. Stays open now???? Any changes to splash/notify in 3.0 that could be blowing it up? In 3b7 when it found that a update was available it splashed a yellow notification.

Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

I can't really think of anything that was updated for v3 that would cause this except maybe dbus. Marv, have a look at the change log, maybe you'll see something. http://smokey01.com/rg66/X-slacko/change_log.txt

Confirmed: I can work in 4.3.4 if I shut off "Updates" in LibreOffice main for more than a few seconds. Since LO almost always tries to search for an update immediately it has to be that.

Edit: Turned on updates after installing the two other dbus deps in the Salix repo for PPM (dbus-python-1.2.0 and lib-dbus-c++0.9.0). Didn't work.

It's definitely something in the updates. But at least it can work if it's defaulted off?

BIG EDIT: While I still have those two dbus deps in my system, I can note that the 4.4.3 pet here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByUDhE ... sp=sharing from this post: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=85915

Is working fine. The update version doesn't cause a shutdown. Should I try to remove the extra dbus things and see what happens?

@rg66,

I'll think on it. Did try reverting yad to 0.23. No change. I opened LibreOffice with automatic updates turned off, clicked on check for update to see If I'd get a splash and it shut down immediately. My eyes are closing for now, Could try turning off autoupdate in another version if you can get it to stay open long enough and then click on check for updates and see if it is reproduceable.

Looks like it is :)

4.4.3 is still a no go for me but 4.4 works fine, even with updates enabled.

The 4.4.3.2 SFS from that source is running for me with or without updates enabled. Manually checking update does so correctly. No dbus updates or other changes to 3.0n in place except my usuals.. xfce4 battery monitor, gcolor2, hplip, simplegtkradio, leafpad, locator, flashplayer, mtp_detect.

What mtp package are you using? I posted a .pet but didn't get much feedback so I didn't include it in 3.0. Care to test?

The menu entry goes in utility instead of filesystem, will fix later.

I can't test it because I don't have any MTP capable devices.. Thought I could test it on my wifes tablet but it never stops moving long enough to try it. Sorry.

No worries, it's 01micko's pet with a few mods so it should actually work as it's been tested before. I changed it to only add a menu entry when an mtp devise is detected and remove it after unmount. I'll probably just add it to 3.1 anyway.

Seems a reasonable addition to any of today's PUPs.

No but I found a script that enables it. Remove fake .gz, extract to /etc/init.d and reboot.

It's set to use 1/2 the RAM but this seems a bit high, you can change line 61 from 2 to 3,4 or whatever
59 # initialize the devices, set total size to 1/2 RAM

61 echo $((mem_total / 2 / num_cpus)) > /sys/block/zram$i/disksize

Kernel testing, tried 3.17.4 and 4.0.4 form tahr repo and no auto connect for lan. Slacko kernel, no problem. I guess I'll try and compile one and see what happens.

@rg66 I test your script form zram. Is there a zramswap script for x-slacko 2.3.2? Because there is no /lib/lsb/init-functions there.
