Just tried on my Dell lappy and the volume and mute buttons don't work either. Do you know if they worked with slacko-6?ally wrote:taking 3.1n out for a spin, nice....
only issue I've come across are volume buttons (up and down) not working on a lenovo x201

I've uploaded vlc-2.2.1-xslacko.sfs, all deps (qt) are included.
http://smokey01.com/rg66/X-slacko/sfs
Edit: The .desktop file needs editing, change /usr/share/applications/vlc.desktop
Exec=/usr/bin/vlc --started-from-file %U to Exec=/usr/bin/vlc
Recommend editing the sfs, I'll upload a new one eventually.

More testing, half-dozen machines, 2400+, 754, 939, P4, etc. Cannot get the 3.1PAE to boot on anything - not even Intel. 3.1n also fails to boot on Intel. New d/l, new burns, nothing works. Sometimes boot starts and halts, other times can't get the boot screen. Discs are all CD-RW, either 650 or 700(most) and can be verified. md5 s OK. Other distros including Slacko boot without incident. Only use -RW.

So far I've test PAE CD on 5 desktops and 2 laptops. It booted off all except my Win box but Non-PAE wouldn't boot off of it either, it must not like CD-RW. I'm out of comps to test on unless I build a few more.

Notice that the drive often stops before boot screen appears. There have been reports about timings on the Forum, but not my area of expertise.
In desperation, burned a 52x CD-R @ 25x with 3.1PAE - started up without problems!
...but this expedient shouldn't be necessary; it isn't so with any other distros I've used for several years. I think there are folks out there who know the answer.

On my Win box, I get a flashing cursor and the drive does indeed stop. Non of this makes any sense, the only difference between the two is the kernel (zdrv and vmlinuz), all other files are the same. I'll play around a bit more but if I can't figure it out I'll probably pull the ISO's and leave it at v3.0 for some time.Sage wrote:Notice that the drive often stops before boot screen appears. Sorry to see this, I like 3.1. I don't have any R/W cds so can't test or fiddle with a kernel swap to see... Out of curiosity, did you use the same compression on 3.1 as on 3.0? Thinking timing.rg66 wrote: -snip- On my Win box, I get a flashing cursor and the drive does indeed stop. Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Yes, xz. I've been building the ISO's the same since Carolina. Build a PAE ISO then swap out the kernel for the Non-PAE, all with ISOmaster. You'd think I'd have enough practice by now.Marv wrote:Out of curiosity, did you use the same compression on 3.1 as on 3.0? Thinking timing.

I haven't tried your x-slacko for a long time. It's rather refreshing really!

Good. Burned a CD-R with the 3.1 PAE iso. Verified and boots fine both on my Core 2 duo laptop and on the Bay Trail desktop. Also dug out an old (2009) CD-RW, managed to blank it completely after a couple of attempts but could not get a reliable write to it with 3.0n, 3.1n or 1b2 using the Core 2 Duo laptop writer. Matches my experience of yore with the rewriteables (I stopped using them circa 2009). I think they don't like me! Are the new ones more robust?rg66 wrote:Tried PAE on 3 more desktops, booted no prob. The ISO's will stay as is for now.

Never really considered a 64bit version, maybe I'll give it a go when slacko64 goes beta.

Don't know about the new ones (or old ones really), my win box doesn't like either. Was going to try a DVD-RW but the two I have are buggered.
