Did you install 107 with the XP-installer?
Do you have a fat32-partition in addition to c: (or a linux-partition)?
Puppy2 cannot use NTFS-partitions.

The more details you tell us, the easier it is to give tips :)

I installed 1.0.7 with the xp insaller, I have a ....... wait let me check.. a NTFS. But I installed a very large pup001 file. But on this one drive, SYSTEM_SAV (D:) it is FAT32. The only file on it is syslinux.cfg.
Could I use that? I atached a screenshot. :D
I want to know if I can install 2.0.1 with the xp installer? :)

Edit, I dont thnk i attached it.

Jake,

In order to make a good recomendation and help you we really need more information. It sounds like you have at least two partitions on your hard drive so for a start in Win XP go to Start>My Computer and right click on each hard drive/partition it shows. Make note of the partition size, available space, and file system used. With Win XP it will be either NTFS or FAT32 - the latter is linux/puppy friendly and if there is sufficient space you could just boot from the live CD and ond on first shutdown elect to put the save file - pup_save.3fs - on that partition. The initial size for this file is usually 512MB but if less space is available it will automatically be made smaller. There is also I believe a utility in Puppy 2 that will alow you to import your settings and the like from the pup001 file. Since I haven't used it I'll defer to some of the more experienced folks on the board here. Hope this helps you.
Always give without remembering - always receive without forgetting.

you partially can use the XP-installer.
You also must do things manually.

In the following examples, you must replace XXX with a correct path.

Run you old Puppy, and mount the Puppy2-ISO.
mkdir /root/mount
mount -o loop /XXX/puppy-2.01-seamonkey.iso /root/mount

Now mount your Fat32-partition in MUT.

Copy there these files from /root/mount
vmlinuz
initrd.gz
pup_201.sfs

Write down, as what drive your Fat32-partition is mounted, for example hda 5

Now start WinXP.
Edit in Notepad the file
c:/Program files/Puppy-Linux Installer for Windows XP/resource/puppyboot/menu.lst

Add such an entry:

Code: Select all

title Puppy Linux2
        rootnoverify (hdX,Y)
        kernel (hdX,Y)/vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=idehd
        initrd (hdX,Y)/initrd.gz

You must modify (hdX,Y) like this:
If your Fat32-partition is showed in MUT as hda , then X must be 0.
If it is hdb , then X must be 1

So X is the amount of real harddisks you have.

Then MUT shows things like
hda
1
2
If you have more than one partition on the first harddisk.
The number of the partition is what you must enter for Y
In the Grub-menu, it is one number less, than displayed in MUT.
So if your Fat32-drive is in MUT shown as hda 2, then you would use (hd0,1).
If your Fat32-drive is in MUT shown as hda 5, then you would use (hd0,4).
If your Fat32-drive is in MUT shown as hdb 1, then you would use (hd1,0).

Save your changes, and start the XP-installer.
Click on "run Grubinstall".
This will update the Grub-bootmenu with your new entry.

Then reboot, and in the Grubmenu, choose your new Puppy2 -entry, to test if it works.
