Because you tried to install the printer in Ubuntu through the CUPS web interface, it's hard to know what's gone wrong. Like I said, installing through the Ubuntu print manager worked correctly for me in both 10.10 and 12.04.

You may need a clean Ubuntu setup to confirm this.

I did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 and all current updates. It works. It is printing everything,
test page, libre document, email etc.
I have to decide whether I just keep this install or goto ubuntu forms and see if there is something I can remove and reload to fix my original install with all my stuff.

Thank you for all your help ,you are truly a big asset to this forum!

Excellent. Could you go back to your first post and change the title to "How to share a Puppy printer with Ubuntu".

Ubuntu has detected your Puppy printer using the IPP protocol. It used to be that IPP sent the print job to the remote printer and let it do the formatting. So only the remote computer needed the driver.

But it doesn't seem to work that way anymore. See the discussion here about setting up a Linux client (at the bottom of the main post).

I don't know how you do this in Ubuntu.

the hp dj f4200 was listed in the puppy printer install drivers . I found out about it in a previous post by someone.

Could you find me a link to this driver?

You asked where I found the driver that got my hp1000 printing local on puppy computer
