Can't do a full install of Slacko 5.6 4G-NON-PAE (FIXED!)

I tried in vain to use the Universal Installer to do a full install of Slacko 5.6 4G non-PAE on my new (to me) Latitude D400.

A frugal install works (I am posting this from it...), as does a Unetbootin USB install.

I think there an issue with an install script. The install happens very quickly - quicker than a full install of the latest Precise Retro, and all of the folders aren't there on SDA once it is done.

I have to use a non-PAE kernel/distro on this little $40 laptop, as it is equipped with an early Pentium M processor that rejects the PAE kernel.

Yes - in fact, I tried all three formats using GParted just to eliminate that variable. I successfully completed a full install of Precise 5.7.1 Retro on the same machine, but I would prefer to run Slacko...

Since I always have empty partitions......... test full install of Slacko 5.6 4G non-pae. Installed with zero problems and posting from it now.

I did not, but will re-download the .iso and do so later this week when I have time.

Weird that the .iso I got installs frugally yet not fully. I also go direct .iso to USB via Unetbootin on my Windows box. The target machine in question has no optical drive. Next time I will use the .iso-to-USB tool within my frugal Slacko install to do this and see what happens...

When I install full from usb. I mount /dev/sda (usb) before running the installer so it can find the files. I am not sure this is your problem though.

Forgot to mention I also flag the Puppy Partition as boot also in gparted.

I am doing both of these as well. I was able to do a full install of Retro Precise successfully on the same machine.

That said, I am way too well-acquainted with Mr. Murphy to rule out operator error...

I don't know if the issue was a corrupted download, or with copying the .iso file to/from a Windows box...

As per James C's pointers, I redownloaded the .iso onto another partition on my Latitude, checked the md5 sum successfully, and then used the Puppy BootFlash installer to make a fresh USB copy.

I then booted from that USB copy, created a test ext3 partition, and used the previously mounted .iso to successfully do a full install - all done on the same machine.

Lesson learned, and operator error noted...
