Hi, folks!

I think that this little tool is mature enough to be published! :)
(Ok, ok, this is a pre-publishing publishing ;) , see TODO below.)

Tooting this script's horn a bit: :)
  • This version 6 has a wrapper to call it;
    the main script uses moderate transparency;
    one "clear" command removed -- the second part flows better;
    added the discovery of the name of the Puppy you're in,
    a check and the choice to use IT, OR to
    create a pupsave file for another Puppy.
Previous features (summary of previous posts)
  • exit OR info access if attempting to create the pupsave on an ntfs drive;
    possibility of creating the pupsave file on sda1 OR sdb1 (HD or USB);
    clear error messages AND
    clear on-screen explanations;
    list of recent Puppies;
    rox opens in pupsave folder for further user process.
Any constructive improvement ideas or comments will be welcome.
(Even if you're a little bit of a crackpot! :D )

BFN.

Enjoy!

Hello, all.

This version, # 8, offers the user the capacity not only to
  • create a new pupsave file, but also to
    resize an existing pupsave file.
A pet archive is also attached. Your choice, really.

Enjoy!

Hello, all.

This version 9 adds the capacity to move the pupsave file or the pupsaveresize.txt stub
on any non-ntfs partition.

Enjoy!

Didn`t read the whole thread, but what`s the chance of this getting into mainstream Puppy.?

I just tried Precise-5.7.1 and had the shutdown fault. Restarting X made it work.

Hi, sunburnt.

Good to hear from you.

Answer to Question: I never thought of pushing it into mainstream Puppy. But sure,
if it can help someone. Truth is: this script needs an agent, I've never been very
good at promotion! :shock:

Unsure what to answer to your 2nd paragraph. Please give more details?
Do you mean: you ask for shutdown and the Puppy seems to hang; then you
click menu item "Restart x" and the Puppy finally closes?

In this thread, I've been trying to provide an alternative solution to the pupsave
creation bug
on first boot.

The shutdown bug is something else, isn't it? BTW, I thought it had been
solved eons ago...

Still there, eh? Use the sledge hammer, it's in the garage! :twisted:

Best regards.

Yep, southern style. A double barrel shotgun for fly killin`. Lots of holes in the walls though... :lol:

I refer to the shutdown Save file problem ( this bug thread ). Didn`t spell it out completely, sorry...

First shutdown, asks to make Save file. Answer yes and the usual hang. This is an old problem...
Jogging something can sometimes make things work, so I restarted X and the wizard continued.
But the wizard guis were all showing at the same time. Finished the Save wizards and it shutdown.
At the last console it reported Not Saved, but it may have been the session it was talking about.
At next boot I looked in the Puppy_5.7.1 folder and there was a Save file in it.

# I made a GtkDialog Save file maker: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=90651

If you`ll take a look at it, it may be useful to replace Puppy`s current Save file wizard.
I can expand on it, it doesn`t do encrypted, but I ask the Q: Who uses an encrypted Save file anyway.?
Encrypted does have it`s uses though, but it`s a hack attempt at multi. users for Puppy.
