This does not look like a patch.
Does not even say which file should be modified.
Will make life much easier if you could provide a real patch.
If a patch is not possible the file to be modified or a link to rewind's original, would be helpful (to me)

Hi

Perhaps I should have said fix rather than patch....

Came to me during a pm discussion from rerwin about a wifi problem reported by marv

file fixed is /etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG

pet with fix attached.

switched to simple network which works ok (nb 5.6.0.5 was able to connect using both utilities)
Maybe an older wag-profiles.sh script got dragged in, I'll have to check. Anyway, that scripts (function library actually) needs updating. It's really not good enough that it isn't smart enough to detect that a chip is wpa capable (which 99% or more are these days). I might need some feedback on the output of modinfo for various wireless modules. If I can come up with something across the board maybe we can automate this process.

Yes, just need to get a broad idea of kernel stability first as the f2fs patches are getting old and this kernel is rather new in comparison.

Good :)

I'm attaching an experimental wag-profiles.sh. Hopefully it will fix ally's issue and be future proof.

The multiple soundcard wizard is in the setup menu.
I suggest we skip it here as it is a part of the ALSA sound wizard.

Btw, shouldn't the multiple soundcard wizard been a part of woof-CE?

Temp is still running 25-30 degrees below average and there's snow and ice everywhere but luckily the power outages are hopefully over.

Fresh manual frugal install of Slacko 5.6.5.6 ....needed to use SNS for internet connection but otherwise looks solid.

Hi Mick

Perhaps you remember the old problem with fullscreen mode in certain apps, under JWM?
Some time ago, I reported this issue to Joe, but it turned out to be a problem more with SDL itself.
https://github.com/joewing/jwm/issues/101

This patch for SDL fixes the problem on both regular and x86_64 Slackos (libs must be in /usr/lib64/ on the latter, of course 8) ).

Greetings!

I have run into 3 problems on this 32bit version of Slacko:

Scenario
I have netbooted this ISO from the LAN onto a Laptop which has NO HDD or USB drive at time of boot. FirstRUN works as expected, PPM updates as expected and all seems well. System has not been rebooted.

Problem 1
When a USB hub with 2 USB Flash are plugged in no desktop updates are occurring. The desktop's "MOUNT" icon show that system did discover the drives and I was able to mount them for system use. But, even after mount, the units still do not appear on the desktop. Only way to access the units is via ROX or terminal. DMESG shows connections OK, but seems there is no trigger occuring for desktop update when USB plugged in. SEE DMESG REPORT FOR USB connection BELOW.
Update: By restarting the desktop, the USB drives are now showing. In fact, subsequent unplugging and replugging produces traditional results.

Problem 2
The LAN has a NAS which is accessed via smb. The traditional commands used to mount them via terminal are ending without connection in error. Here the command that worked worked for smbclient V4 and V3 before using this version of Slacko

Code: Select all

mount //192.168.0.2/Disk1 /mnt/theNAS -o sec=ntlm,username=root -t cifs
DMESG is showing a CIFS error 22 for any LAN mount attempts. Anyone know what the proper "mount" command to be used should be for this 32bit? BTW Slacko64 exhibits no such behavior in use of the mount command.

Problem 3
Anyone care to take a stab at why the terminal commands "locate" and "updatedb" are not included in some PUPs? Systems today have some VERY LARGE disks drives with lots and lots of files. These commands help.

All other aspects of the system tested thus far are OK

System tray items do not exit

#327 Post by peebee »

Parcellite and retrovol in the system tray have exit/quit options however in Slacko5.7Beta activating these options does not delete their .desktop files from .config/autostart so they reappear on reboot or window manager restart. i.e. they cannot be permanently exited.

The Firewall item does seem to exit correctly.

Slocko 5.7 testing

#330 Post by TIW »

Hi Mick.

Here is what happened.
My intention was it to eject the CD from within the drive.
After the 1. right click on the DVD ( sr0 ) desktop icon this window

/.pup_event

appeared in the upper left hand corner.
After clicking it shut and a second right click on the DVD icon, the icon disappeared altogether.

Later I tried to see whether it is a consistent problem.
I found it to be a yes and a no.

After three times clicking on the icon it disappeared again.

Well, I thought I let you know.

I encountered this mysterious behavior a couple of times before - the cause was as follows, check whether it matches:
When you right-click a desktop icon, a pop-up menu appears promptly (ROX is fast) and if mouse cursor will be moved in any direction, an item upon which the cursor is located, will be executed right after releasing right mouse button.

It's possible to partially prevent such behavior: right-click an icon - > Edit item -> check "Locked" + OK
so, at least, an icon won't get removed accidently.
Or, just don't release right mouse button until you hover the option you want to execute.

The attached gtk theme is updated with a new image for disabled checkbox.
The gtkrc file is cleaned up for easier reading.

I suggest we include this one into Woof-CE as a template for other designers.
It is old-fashion, and not the most glorious, but it is working - and is well tested for several years. The Flat-grey theme is also working as expected, and is a wonderful example how Barry taught us to KISS.

Testing

#335 Post by sszindian »

Oh Boy... sometimes I just hate to report on a new build but... I guess that's why I like to test!

IMO (mind you)

Slacko-5.6.5.5 using the 3.10.19 Kernel (even with the few faults it had) is just a much-better Puppy. Graphics are better, Execution of programs is way beyond 5.6.5.6 and overall just a joy to work with!

That said.... I hope some of the other testers will jump in here and give an honest opinion!!!!
