Lucent modems work fine in 2.0.1 SeaMonkey

#1 Post by ezeze5000 »

Hi
I'm using puppy-2.0.1-seamonkey

Every modem with a Lucent chipset that I have installed on
a PC has worked!

This PC is an old Toshiba Equium 7100m
600mhz processor
256mb ram
on board video
(did have crashed windows XP) HA!

It runs real good now!

I just love this new puppy :D

PS: I hope to make lots more puppies.
If at first you don't succeed try try again!

Yes, it works great but the module is not included by default so it needs to be installed. If you also have access to broadband you can just use the install icon on the desktop to download and install the pupget, but if dialup is your only means of connection you will need to download it seperately from the Puppy repository: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 6.7.tar.gz

Once install you will get a button in the modem wizard that says: "ttyLT0"

Er, I just uploaded slmodem and ltmodem pupget packages for v2.02, and
they won't work in 2.01 anymore.
The problem is, only used the 'k2.6.16.7' in the filenames, which would normally
be enough. But in this case the same kernel version got recompiled such that
the 2.01 modules no longer work... :(

i downloaded the module and still NOTHING
i used EZnet thinking that would help, IT is a Stratitec I56A. i read that people had some luck with it so i tried EZnet. so if some one has any other ideas... "I'm All ears"

I had a look on the Statitec website and your modem should work with the lucent driver:
http://www.stratitec.com/support/docs/i ... ation.html

What version of Puppy are you running? Barry mentioned above he's recompiled the 2.6 driver and you now need Puppy 2.02 for it to work.

To see if the module was loaded at boot, type in a terminal: lsmod
This will list the loaded modules. You should see ltserial and ltmodem in the list.
If it's not loaded try to load with: modprobe ltserial
Report back any errors.

i have 2.01r

I downloaded the lucent drivers before 2.02 came out

I read on the beginners forum, that there is a bug that the ltmodem won't save the configuration or something because I did a Modprobe and a lsmod and when i dod Modprobe there was an error: can't load lsmod.ko and when i went to the direcrory and opened up Ltmodem.ko there was some text and that's all.

When you go into the modem wizard do you have a button that says ttyLT0?

I'm out of town at the moment and running from the livecd and dialing in from a motel, so I know it can work, even through a motel pabx.

Oh, sounds like the driver is having trouble assigning your modem an IRQ. Mine gives me IRQ 5 on this laptop and on my older Toshiba IRQ 3, maybe an unfortunate hardware combination so you may be better off trying an external serial modem.

bleckman,

when you try & install it are you doing it via:

1) puppy package manager--> Install or remove packages or
2) puppy package manager--> Install alien package?

reason i ask is that i've had intermittent ltmodem install probs trying one way, so do the other & it works, (just i forget which one works!).

so if you've tried 1, try 2, & vice versa.(N.B. whatever way you tried first, if it didn't succeed, you'd have to remove the package before trying alternative).

the pupget package manager gives you the option of "adding/deleting a package", or "install_alien_pkg"

from what you say it sounds like you've installed the ltmodem package the first way, & it hasn't worked. i'm suggesting running pupget package manager again, selecting add/delete, highlighting ltmodem on the right side, selecting remove, then "OK", then, (assuming you've downloaded a copy of ltmodem to your hard disk), start pupget package manager again, but this time select "install_alien_pkg", then change directory & highlight the ltmodem you've donloaded & press enter.

then, if that doesn't work, reach for the axe!
