PostPosted: Fri 13 Jun 2014, 09:44    Post subject: seamonkey-2.0.6-w5.pet looking for

Hello,

I don't know whether is the a suitable topic, but has anybody got seamonkey-2.0.6-w5.pet package? I've looking for this version for an older comp (newer ones scrolling speed much slower on old machines), but all of the links i found for it is dead (maybe 2.0.7-w5 is good enough too).
So if somebody has got and could make it downlodable it would be great.

Thanks

I suggest to use portable seamonkey where you can choose the mozilla official release to install (not compiled: the original binaries):

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=92015

Untick the updates in preferences.

Edit: you can separatedly download seamonkey 2.0.6 from:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.0.6/linux-i686/en-US/seamonkey-2.0.6.tar.bz2

and use the download with shino's portable seamonkey.

I'm using Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 which has for some reason a Seamonkey that is not updating, so I replaced it with this one but when I try to update it, it sais something like: "something is trying to download an insecure semonkey version, please contact your network administrator and seek help".
I tried the portable version before, but that is too complicated for me to install.
How can i get an updateble Seamonkey pet?

Or maybe there is something I can change in the settings so that it doesn't seem "insecure" any more?

As a matter of fact, updating Seamonkey is dead easy and you don't need a pet:

1) Download the latest release from here http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases

2) Go to the directory (open a Rox window) where the download (seamonkey-2.46.tar.bz2) has been saved

3) Press the tilde ~ key to bring up the terminal
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=937684#937684
and execute the following command:
Code:
rm -rf /usr/lib/seamonkey && tar jxvf seamonkey-2.46.tar.bz2 -C /usr/lib
presumed of course that your Seamonkey resides in /usr/lib - adjust the location to match your setup. And that's. This command removes the old install and unpacks the newly downloaded Seamonkey in its place. Mission accomplished.

Thanks anikin!
But the thing with the tilde doesn't work, I don't know why.
Nothing happens when I push it.
I've downloaded the Seamonkey now in "downloads", how should I go further?
Sorry, as you can see I'm clueless about many simple things.. Confused

For the key to work, maybe you need to click in that directory ... anyway, if the tilde key doesn't work - right-click in that directory, select from the menu > window > terminal here and proceed with the command.

edit:
just in case you don't know - copy the command, click the terminal window, press shift+insert keys to paste the command to the terminal.

Now Seamonkey seems to have been installed, I could see the progress in the terminal, but afterwards when I start it, it's still the old Seamonkey 2.23, that is "insecure" and doesn't update.
The new Seamonkey is nowhere to be found..
Even after reboot

bruno,

I might have mislead you. Your Seamonkey is probably a full install and I'm talking about a portable one. You can do as follows. 1) Remove/uninstall your Seamonkey. 2) Follow my howto here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=936280#936280 and make it portable. Adjust the version and location in the command line. It's really not complicated at all. Or, maybe watchdog will make a new pet for you ... no, I don't think a pet will be a good option.

Hello anikin,
Thanks for your help, but there are now 2 Seamonkeys on my Puppy, but I cannot remove any of them. One is the old 2.23, but it does not show up in the "uninstall" of Puppy package manager, and it doesn't show up in the "remove built-in packages".
And the other one is the new 2.46, that should be installed somewhere, but I cannot find it anywhere...

It must be somewhere in the savefile, because that has gotten smaller

The new one is located in /usr/lib/seamonkey
just delete the seamonkey directory to uninstall it. But before you do, you can try run it. Open a terminal in that directory and run
Code:
./seamonkey
to check to see if it works.

I went there, and I found Seamonkey 2.19, the original of Upup Raring, and still working! Shocked
I deleted those files, so that 2.19 should be gone, but now I can still start Seamonkey 2.23 from the menu Confused
