If the *desktop files in /usr/share/applications/ contain

Name[<lang>]=Name in your language
or
Comment[<lang>]=Comment in your language

these will be displayed in Control Panel
and in QuickApps (/usr/bin/fatdog-quickapps.sh) too!

I have internationalized this script ...
(see attachment)
...and localized to "MeineApps"

... you might append the following to your po file
Code:

#: fatdog-quickapps.sh:12
msgid "QuickApps"
msgstr "MeineApps"

#: fatdog-quickapps.sh:36
msgid "Application Launcher - create shortcuts for often-used applications"
msgstr "Anwendungsstarter - für oft benutzte Anwendungen"

"You can identify them by looking at the window title. \\n \n"

"To add a shortcut, follow these three easy steps:"
msgstr ""
"Zwei Ordner wurden geöffnet. \\n\n"

"Zur Erzeugung individueller  Einträge einfach die folgenden drei Schritte durchführen:"

#, sh-format
msgid ""
"Create a new folder in the ${APPTITLE} folder. \\n \n"
"   This new folder serves as \"Category\" and will appear as a tab in the ${APPTITLE}."
msgstr ""
"Im Ordner ${APPTITLE} einen neuen Ordner erzeugen. \\n \n"
"   Dieser neue Ordner dient als \"Kategorie\" und wird in ${APPTITLE} als Reiter erscheinen."

#: fatdog-quickapps.sh:67
msgid ""
"From the \"All applications folder\", select then drag and drop the applications you want \n"

msgstr ""

Thank you L18L.
1. The updated fatdog-quickapps will be part of basesfs in next release.
2. fatdog.pot and fatdog.mo (german) will be included in fatdog-i18n-1-noarch-1.txz package in the repo *AND* in fd64-nls.sfs. The one in fd64-nls.sfs obviously will be static, but the package in the repo will reflect continuous updates - all other languages will be in this package as well, when they are available.

cheers!

Thank you jamesbond,
you have done another great work: looks like you have found all translations existing on the web and put them into one sfs.

Note, ROX-Filer.mo has to be located at
/usr/share/ROX-Filer/Messages/<lang>/LC_MESSAGES/

fatdog.potcan be found at /usr/share/locale if fd64-nls_700b2.sfs is loaded.

help doc faq -> gettext

Why?

If and when a phrase is changed in original document
then the missing translation of this phrase is indication that something has been changed.

Code:
#!/bin/sh
echo "Content-type: text/html"
echo
[ "$LANGUAGE" ] || LANGUAGE=${LANG%%_*} # enable languages other than actual one
export TEXTDOMAIN=fatdoghelp
cat <<EOF

Subject description: progress on doc and faqs

As Fatdog is NOT Puppy it is really important learning to know the differences.

There is nothing better than the docs in /usr/share/docs/faqs to learn from.

Translating these and overwrite (or override) the originals is bad.

Translating these and store them under a directory of the target language is bad. Why? Changes might not be noticed and thus not be updated!

Using gettext and the web server mongoose is the best I think of at the moment.
Not just think of but startet doing it.

Here a teaser.

The pic is showing the partially translated "index" of the FAQs.
Bottom line links to English original and to translations in other languages. (the others are fake of course, just symlinks to my Deutsch translation)
Code:
source ../template_top; cat <<EOF
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="$LANGUAGE">
<head>
 <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;
      charset=UTF-8">
 <title>$(gettext "Fatdog64 Frequently Asked Questions")</title>
 <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="fatdog.css">

Code:
.
.
  <li><a href="./links.html">$(gettext "More links.")</a></li>
 </ol>
</div>
<p class="original">$p</a></p>
</body>
</html>
EOF

.. and that's the template:
Code:
echo "Content-type: text/html;charset=UTF-8"
echo

alias _=gettext
export TEXTDOMAIN=fatdoghelp;

[ "${QUERY_STRING%%=*}" = "LANGUAGE" ] && LANGUAGE=${QUERY_STRING#*=}

# indicate (and link) original and translations

p="$p $(_ 'Translations: ')"
for L in `ls /usr/share/locale/*/LC_MESSAGES/${TEXTDOMAIN}.mo|cut -d/ -f5`; do
 a1='<a href="?LANGUAGE='$L'">'
 a2='</a>'
 [ "$L" = "$LANGUAGE" ] && { a1=; a2=; }

Run in console:
Code:
./fatdog-help

this launches the pre-installed web server mongoose
and opens doc/home in default web browser

Run in console:
Code:
./make_all_html_files_web_server_usable

...and the links in faqs/faq.html will (sort of) work.

Translate:

fatdoghelp.pot was created by:
Code:
xgettext -L shell --keyword=_  -o fatdoghelp.pot template_top home.html `ls faqs/*.html`

Code:
msginit # will create .po file for fatdoghelp

translate them using geany

Code:
msgfmt ${LANG%%_*}.po -o /usr/share/locale/${LANG%%_*}/LC_MESSAGES/fatdoghelp.mo

...and you will have

home.html
faq.html
tray.html
bugs.html
link.html in your language

Note, directories ../locale/ar and el are just for fun...

Enjoy

Sort of Help for Fatdog

You should already have loaded:
fd64-nls_700b2.sfs
(see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=96179 )

web server mongoose is launched at start of X
localhost:8080 will launch Fatdog's home page
from there you can navigate to faqs...

Translate:

create fatdoghelp.pot:

cd (usr/share/doc
xgettext -L shell --keyword=_ -o fatdoghelp.pot template_top home.html `ls faqs/*.html`

number of messages counted:
# grep -c msgid fatdoghelp.pot
1532
#

msginit # will create ${LANG%%_*}.po file for fatdoghelp

translate them using geany and then format the messages by:

msgfmt ${LANG%%_*}.po -o /usr/share/locale/${LANG%%_*}/LC_MESSAGES/fatdoghelp.mo

...and you can have

home.html and faqs

in your language (and hopefully soon in some other already translated languages)

Note, a translated doc is only counted as translation if translated title is different from English title

Enjoy

Download 549K from:http://now4u.org/fd64-700b2-NLS-2.tar.gz

EDIT
Size large, too large?
Partially translated German translation fatdoghelp.mo.
fatdoghelp.mo has 520 messages translated and is 83 K large for now.
All 1532 translated would make about 250K.
exiv2.mo - 249K
gimp.mo - 275 K
vlc.mo - 610 K

Here is a small improvement:
2 levels only because all is UTF-8 only, no need to choose it.

Change /usr/sbin/fatdog-choose-locale.sh:
Code:

# License: GNU GPL Version 3 or later
#
# 2014-01 L18L - localisation
#141202 omit territory in dialog, ex: German Germany. Now just: German de_DE.UTF - German locale for Germany

export TEXTDOMAIN=fatdog

#   supported_locales > $CACHE_FILE                                 #141202
   supported_locales | grep -v '1$' | sed 's/2$/1/'  > $CACHE_FILE #141202
   kill $XPID
}

Maybe you have another solution...
But here is how I have got it done...

Expand attached spot/add_to_fd65-700b2-NLS-4 to /
