Hello 
I just wanted to drop a note of thanks to whomever is responsible for Precise Puppy 5.7.1.
I'm using the precise-5.7.1.iso.
Kernel 3.9.11 (i686)
Precise Puppy is running well on many different laptop machines of different ages and configurations.
For example, Precise runs in Dell Inspiron 4100 series, Dell Inspiron 5100 series, Dell Inspiron 600m, Gateway 400SD4, Noblise RTS-N4018,
14 year old Compaq 1200, 12 year old Sony Vaio xxx, 12 year old Toshiba Satillite xxx. Precise is even running a cranky Thinkpad 240 circa 2000 (not real smooth, but running).
Today, a 12 year old Gateway 700S tower machine took to Precise with no issues.
Intel Pentium 4 and M seem to like Precise.
I am having better luck with full installs to HDD than Frugal.
Full seems to run faster. I have less boot issues with the full install.
Not all the machines I tinker with have Hard Drives.
This could just be my imagination, but, for what it is worth...
My wish list for what I'd like to see on the desktop in the future:
I would like to see *PupClockset* or similiar applied to the date in the JWM tray so that the day and number and month and number and time shows.
Please, please put *Pfind* or similiar search link on desktop. (and, with a larger icon)
Please put *Hardinfo* link on desktop.

I am NOT one of the coders, but thanks for sharing your experience. I am sure BK and
others involved will appreciate the kudo.
Just a note: you did not mention if you were using the retro or the regular version of
Precise-5.7.1. It would be useful to know.
As to your suggestions at the bottom of your message:
add pfind and hardinfo icons : I couldn't agree more!
As to the time in jwm and even icewm, doesn't the full time info appear as a little line
when your leave your cursor on the hour in the tray for a second or two? It should.

How do I tell which version I'm using?
The desktop wallpaper is the blue background with gold puppy face and 'Precise Puppy' in blue background.

Hi, Sky.
I believe they both use the same background. The kernel for the retro one is older,
whereas the regular version has a recent kernel.
An easy way to know is: which one did you download?

The retro one has the word "retro" in the name of its iso.

I am asking because a French derivative of Puppy Precise 5.7.1, by the name of Triton has
just come out, and reportedly, the ordinary version doesn't work on some old computers.

I tried MacPup and LuPu variants (don't remember the numbers, but they were late Lucid-based versions) on my new ASUS X550C and they wouldn't run... Precise (not retro) runs beautifully. Might be the underlying code for Pangolin or the included Linux core... Because my computer is new, I didn't want the retro version.

Yes, this seems true.
Note that I'm using retro version, only because it supports slightly more hardware on the target device.

Your wish list can be solved as follows -
1) I would like to see *PupClockset* or similiar applied to the date in the JWM tray so that the day and number and month and number and time shows.
Solution -
Click on "file" -> "eye" and right click on "jwmrc-tray"
Click on "Open as Text"
In the third to the last line which starts <Clock format ="%H:%M"
change %H:%M to %a %d %b %r
Save and exit jwmrc-tray
Click on "menu" at bottom left and click on "shutdown" "restart JWM"
Note: I show the day of month before the name of month as I do not live in the USA.
2) put *Pfind* or similiar search link on desktop. (and, with a larger icon)
Solution
Click on "file" -> "eye"
Click on ".user"
Click on "share"
Click on "applications"
Scroll down to the icon "pfind.desktop" and drag it to the desktop
Do a Google search for the icon you want and drop it on the desktop.
Right click on "pfind.desktop" which is now on desktop - see above
Highlight "File find" and click on "Set icon..."
Click on "Clear" near the bottom left to clear the old icon
Drag your new icon to "Drop an icon file here"
Click on close.
I agree with you - these procedures should be much simpler.
