May want to add @BillToo's finding to the video issues on the FATDOG webpage. Good clear info.

Today I did try the ati-catalyst-13.12-HD5-and-up-fd64-630.pet on my HD7870 XT and it does not work
at all :( .
I don't see Catalyst after installing the pet , and restarting X crashes X Server .
Erasing xorg.conf and then aticonfig --initial from the terminal had no effect either .
The 14.1 Beta driver at least makes audio over HDMI function :) .

Thank's for trying , @kirk !

@kirk
The ati-catalyst-13.1-legacy-HD234-fd64-630.pet works for this install
using the same method that was successful on my Acer netbook.

Thanks, Billtoo

I've repackged the AMD/ATI Catalyst video drivers. These packages DO NOT include xorg-server-1.12.4, which is required to be installed first.

There is no uninstall, use a savefile/folder you can delete if needed,

FIRST

Install the xorg-server-1.12.4 pet package and reboot

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/pets/6 ... 1.12.4.pet

Second

Install the Catalyst pet that's compatible with you card. See the AMD website if you're not sure:

This is for the HD2000, HD3000, and HD4000:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/pets/6 ... 64-630.pet

This is for the HD5000 and newer:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/pets/6 ... 64-630.pet

Then Reboot again

Are you sure its the new driver? I did a bit of digging and found a seg fault was causing the Xwindows crash due to a different libary bug external to both VLC and Xwindows. Just happen to be exposed by the change.
Its in the newly added libary that hides the true underlying graphic hardware. VAU or PAU like something I can't recall exactly but if you call cvlc with the command line it will tell you why and where then burbs ... Just enough time to see the error msg before poof...
DRI name is blank... Zero buffer. Seg fault ..poof disappears.

@Ted Dog

This is from the legacy ati pet that I reported on this morning:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Fri 21 Feb 2014 on Fatdog64 630 Linux 3.12.9 x86_64

17020 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3403.957 FPS
16998 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3399.520 FPS
#
Nexuiz,Saurbraten, and Openarena all work great.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The report on kirk's newest ati hd5000+ and xorgserver pets was a new
install running on my laptop with ati hd5470 graphics.

The fglrx driver is installed but glxgears doesn't work,Nexuiz, etc
don't work either so hardware acceleration isn't working.

So there is a problem with the new driver I think, I never had a
segfault happen.

Got a lucky streak ;) did get FD630 to boot up to X. Downloaded the Xorg Server, and appropriate ATI Catalyst as advised, and now, everything works. Suspend to ram, and waking up, no problem.

Installed the 'old' slacko 32bit libs and wine SFS, works.

Now fiddling with LXPanel from the repo, looks promising.

CPU temp (read out by Gatotray64) is around 45-47°C, as compared to 56-60°C in Slacko64, ATI Powerplay set to 'maximum battery', for AC, too, that's what I needed catalyst for ;)

Overall, great, as expected.

great news your default setup looks just like mine... I add a solitaire game and hit the remaster option to keep my package in a state to reuse or fall back to if I messup.

This may be a good time to tell people about the new and improved methodology of running any 32bit puppy iso like we currently do with very old slaco32.sfs

Just for others there are a host of undocumented gems in this release.. :D

Makes you wonder if JamesBond is not just a clever spy after all..

And kirk..who is this secretive guy and then there is fatdog the user :?:

Kirk as in Capt. Kirk?

OK Im getting sleepy and might be sleep typing... I already talk and program in my sleep. Heck I even dream I am reading a book in my dreams, and pass judgment on the authors style and talent...

One sweet gem is KVM Virtual Machine Host allowing a guest to run in the lowest of CPU cycles with the greatest of speed in comparison of couple other methods in FATDOG. The kernel is already built for use of this technology.

The ONLY problem I have currently is getting the Virtual guest (PUP distro running virtually) to be a part of the real LAN network. This would allow the PUP to get his IP personality from the DHCP router versus using the Host take responsibility for this.

Anyway for just some simple testing without any ability to interact with local LAN PCs, this implementation is as fast as if it were running native, but little to no noticeable load on its Virtual Host processing.

Anyone who knows or has instructions for the required bridging, it would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on LAN setup additions in host for guest access.

Bill, I rebuilt the fglrx kernel module, repackaged and uploaded the Catalyst-13.12 pet again. I don't have the hardware to test this one. If you could download this new one and try again that would be good. If it fails, open a terminal and type lsmod. See if fglrx is listed, if not type dmesg and see if there are errors about fglrx. Thanks for testing.

@kirk

I installed to a 32gb class 10 MicroSDHC card.
Installed the new ati pets.

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Sat 22 Feb 2014 on Fatdog64 630 Linux 3.12.9 x86_64

Nexuiz etc. work great.

The pc is connected to the monitor with a dvi cable, earlier I did an
install with the pc connected to the monitor with a hdmi cable and
everything worked but there was a black border of about 1 inch on the
monitor.
I thought the fps would be higher but Nexuiz runs with effects set to
ultra so it's actually the fastest so far.

Thanks

For some reason Catalyst by default is 15% reduced, at least on HDMI. To fix that open amdcccle (It's in the menu) and then click on Display Manager and then on DTV(x). Then click on the adjustment tab and use the slider to select 0 %.

Thanks for testing that out Bill.

is version 1.4 where the common 32bit version is still version 1.3

Thanks Ted Dog, I logged back in to say that I found it. Smokey has it. I realized that it had been a long time since I last looked so I tried again.
Installed now and works well!
Cheers!

Checkers for FATDOG

#140 Post by gcmartin »

Anyone seen a Checker game around anywhere. There is one built-in to Lighthouse, but not sure how to extract and package as a PET.

Thanks in advance for any guidance
