Because of lack of help, Linux Mint is out of the game.

I didn't care for Fedora.

I am going to try Ubuntu next.

To be honest, of the larger distros that I have tried, none have anything more than Puppy other than having some packages like LibreOffice already built-in.

Just my thoughts.

I know I'm responding to an old post, but no one else did, so here goes....

What distro you like depends on your selection criteria.

Fedora - good for bleeding edge tech and for those who like GNOME 3. Not so good for those wanting longer term support or who don't like updating their release so frequently.

Ubuntu -- good for those who like the Unity interface. If you don't like Unity you can get all Ubuntu's benefits but with a different interface by Xubuntu (Xfce), Kubuntu (KDE), Lubuntu (LXDE), etc.

IMHO most desktop and laptop users do not like GNOME 3 and Unity. But, a few do.

Puppy - fastest and lightest of the group you list, by far. Good support, small distro and as you note, easy to expand by a few simple package downloads.

Have fun!
